Trevecca Men’s Soccer | Trojans Secure Historic Win in Gulf South Debut

HUNTSVILLE, AL – The Trevecca Nazarene University men's soccer team (2-2-1, 1-0-0 GSC) made a memorable Gulf South Conference debut with a 2-0 victory over the University of Alabama at Huntsville (1-2-2, 0-1-0 GSC), led by a Chris Douglas brace.

THE SERIES

This match marked the fourth meeting between the Chargers and Trojans in men's soccer. With this victory, Trevecca now leads the all-time series with two wins, one loss, and one draw.

THE GAME

For their first-ever GSC match, Coach Danny Leavy made key adjustments to the lineup, reintroducing Ian Avilés and Max Titterington into the defensive block after their recent stints in midfield. Ben Singer moved into the midfield alongside Tom Hooper and Jake Sieber, while Judah Jones, fresh off a standout performance against Freed-Hardeman, started on the wing, completing the front trio with Daniel Shiel and Chris Douglas. Adan Gonzales returned to his role as goalkeeper, as expected.

The Trojans struck early in the eighth minute when Chris Douglas capitalized on a loose ball controlled by Ben Singer to score Trevecca's first-ever GSC goal.

Just six minutes later, In the 14th minute, Chris Douglas forced a crucial red card on UAH's goalkeeper, who left his line and brought down Douglas as he was clear through on goal.

Chris Douglas capped off a brilliant night in the 75th minute with his second goal, finishing a well-placed assist from Tom Hooper—who also had a stellar game—ultimately securing what would be considered an upset based on pre-season polls.

Adan Gonzales, backed by his solid defensive line, secured his second clean sheet of the season, making three saves.
