NASHVILLE -
Chris Douglas has been named Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week after an impressive two-game, two-goal performance in his debut week for the Trojans.
In the team's season opener, a 2-2 draw at Carson Newman University, Douglas catalyzed the Trojan comeback as they were 2-0 before the half hour mark. In the 33rd minute of play, netted his first goal in the purple and white with a composed bottom-left finish off a
Phillip Collins assist. His impact continued late in the game, helping set up the equalizer just two minutes before the final whistle.
Carrying this momentum to the Trojans' home opener, Douglas was given the nod in the attack and awarded a place in the starting eleven. Despite the Trojans not being able to get the win, he responded with another goal, a header that would put the Trojans within one of the UMSL Tritons, who ultimately pulled off a 3-2 win.
Douglas has proven himself to be a classic "No. 9," a commanding presence in the opponent's box with clinical finishing—a potential game-changer for the Trojans as they prepare for their Gulf South Conference debut.
