NASHVILLE – The #21 Trevecca Nazarene University softball team (44-13) opened the NCAA Midwest Regional tournament with a win over Northwood University (35-19) 8-0 at the Trevecca Softball Complex on Thursday afternoon.
SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
With the win, the Trojans improved to 7-4 all-time versus the Timberwolves including a 2-1 mark in postseason play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
TNU 8, NU 0 – F/5
After a quick 1-2-3 inning put together by Trojan starter Ashlan Sensing, the Trevecca bats wasted little time enacting some postseason revenge on the Timberwolves. Anna Bennett led the home half of the first off with a single and then Kendall Andrews quickly made Northwood pay with a home run to left center field. Northwood went down in order once again in the second allowing the Trojans to add to their lead. With two out and two on, Ashlan Sensing smashed a ball to left field to make it 5-0 Trevecca. The Timberwolves broke the silence in the third inning getting a total of three baserunners in the frame, but nothing to show for it leaving two stranded. The bottom of the third was the only inning in which the Trojans did not score though they got at least Sydney McCormick on the basepaths via a walk. A single was all the Timberwolves managed in the fourth before the Trojans added their sixth run. Malone Thrift led the fourth off with a walk and stood in scoring position after she stole second base. Anna Bennett sent a ball to left center field for the RBI double and 6-0 lead. Northwood went quietly in the fifth with just a pair of singles and runners stranded. Sydney McCormick led the seventh off with a home run and the remaining four Trojans to come to the plate all reached base safely. Maddie Poschke walked and Gracie Kirby singled her to second base. Malone Thrift was safe on a fielder's choice and put runners at the corners. Anna Bennett finished up the run-shortened game with an RBI single up the middle to win it, 8-0, for the Trojans.
