Trevecca Softball | Trojans G-MAC Title Hopes Stopped by Findlay, Await NCAA Regional Berth

AKRON, Ohio – The #22 Trevecca Nazarene University softball team (43-13) were eliminated at the 2024 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championships by fifth-seeded the University of Findlay (33-19) at Firestone Stadium on Friday afternoon.  

The Trojans are expected to advance to the 2024 NCAA Division II Softball Championships, where and when are to be determined. The Trojans are ranked second in the last two NCAA Midwest Region polls. SERIES HISTORY/NOTES  

With the win, The Oilers tied the all-time series at 7-7. The two sides have met three times in the post season, with Findlay controlling a 2-1 advantage. 
HOW IT HAPPENED  

UF 3, TNU 2  

A pitcher's duel to start this game saw a combined six hits through the first four innings. It was Findlay who broke the silence first, though, with a two run fifth inning. After the first two batters were retired, three consecutive singles allowed two runs to score and give the tournament's fifth seed a 2-0 lead. In the sixth, two singles to start the frame followed a double play and RBI double plated the third run of the game for the Oilers. Trevecca scored twice in the bottom of the seventh but could not overcome the three-run hole. 

CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES     

* Gracie Kirby was 2-2 with a walk.  

* Kyleigh Burgett went 1-4 with an RBI double.  

* Annabelle Ellis was 1-3 with an RBI. 

* Ashlan Sensing fell to 22-8 with another complete game performance.   
* Sensing pitched all seven innings while collecting two strikeouts with 10 hits and three earned runs.   
NEXT ON THE DIAMOND     
Despite not claiming the Great Midwest Athletic Conference tournament title, the Trojans positioned themselves quite well during the regular season to host an NCAA Regional tournament. 

Trevecca waits to see their NCAA Regional fate for next week's tournament to be played May 9-11.
