Trevecca Baseball | Trojans Drop First Two With Panthers

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (27-20, 19-11 Great Midwest) opened up a four-game series with Ohio Dominican University (26-20, 17-13 Great Midwest) by getting swept at Panther Valley Field on Thursday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE

Trojan starter Caleb Marks set down the first nine Panthers he faced, three via the strikeout before being tested in game one. After sitting down the leadoff batter on strikes to start the fourth, Ohio Dominican used back-to-back singles to break the tie and take a 1-0 lead which doubled when the next batter connected for a sacrifice fly to right field. With a runner in scoring position and two out in the top of the fifth, the Trojans broke through when Andru Becker singled through the right side to score Josh Griffin and cut the ODU lead in half. Despite a clean fifth inning from Marks, the Panthers got a one out double off the Trojan right hander to take a 3-1 lead. Becker led the eighth inning off with a strikeout, but reached first off a wild pitch which set up the two-run frame for Trevecca. Two singles loaded the bases and a hit-by-pitch allowed a runner home. David Milam flew out to left field to tie the game at 3-3. Ohio Dominican led the ninth inning off with a double and walked off game one with a fielding error by the first baseman allowing the winning run to score, 4-3.
