INDIANAPOLIS – The seventh-seeded Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (33-22) lost for the first time in the Midwest Regional, this time over third-seeded Maryville University (40-17) at Indiana University's Bart Kaufman Field on Saturday afternoon.
SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
Maryville evened the all-time series 6-6 after Trevecca won two of three versus the Saints at Jackson Field at the start of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After retiring the Saints in order to start things off, the Trojans responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. A pair of singles scored the game's first run before Abbott Lawrence knocked in another run off a single to give the Trojans a 2-0 lead.
With one out and two on in the third, the Saints cut the deficit in half with an RBI double down the right field line. After a scoreless fourth inning, Maryville tied the game in the fifth off another RBI double. A pair of two run singles in the sixth broke the tie and gave the Saints a 6-2 advantage before adding their seventh run on an RBI single.
Maryville stretched its lead to 9-2 in the eighth. The Trevecca rally in the ninth was cut short as all the Trojans could manage was a solo home run off the bat of Abbott Lawrence, falling 9-3.
