INDIANAPOLIS – The seventh-seeded Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (33-23) was eliminated in the Midwest Regional, by second-seeded and tournament host the University of Indianapolis (37-19) at Indiana University's Bart Kaufman Field on Sunday afternoon.
SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
UIndy levels the all-time series with Trevecca at 3-3 with the win today. Prior to the Midwest Regionals this season, the Trojans won both games during the 2015 season while the Hounds won both contests in 2013. All four games were played at Jackson Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Facing elimination for the first time this postseason, the Trojans responded well. A two-run first inning was fueled by a Cole McCallum sacrifice fly and a David Milam RBI single to center field. After sitting the Hounds down in order over the first two innings, Trojan starter Jack Keele surrendered third inning which gave Indianapolis a one-run advantage.
After a couple of scoreless innings, Haven Mangrum tied the game at 3-3 in the fifth with a single. A lead-off home run in the seventh gave the Hounds the lead back which they secure for good in the eighth with six more runs.
Joey Parliment got one run back in the ninth, but the Trojans could not overcome the seven run deficit, falling 10-4.
