Trevecca Baseball | Homer Cycle in First Inning Fuels Trojan Win

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (24-17, 16-8 Great Midwest) played its final non-conference game of the regular season against Carson-Newman University (23-21, 16-11 SAC) at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex on Tuesday afternoon.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
Playing for the first time in five seasons, the Trojans snap the Eagles' two-game winning streak to pull within a game of CNU all-time, 4-3.

The 10 runs scored by the Trojans in the first ties the second-most runs plated in a single inning this season. In Trevecca's 20-7 win over Hillsdale on March 29, the Trojans scored 11 runs against the Chargers without hitting a home run. Four singles and three doubles did the trick in that game. In Trevecca's 13-0 win against Lake Erie on March 17, the Trojans also collected 10 runs in an inning. Two home runs and three doubles tallied up the then season-best outing.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After Andru Becker flied out to open the game, three consecutive Trojans singled to load the bases. Then David Milam stepped in and sent the first pitch he saw over the left field wall for his third home run of the year.

Just three pitches later, after Roland Ryan reached on a hit-by-pitch, Abbott Lawrence skyed a ball to left center field for a 6-0 lead. After Josh Griffin lined out, Carter Warner reached first on a fielding error and moved to second when Andru Becker, batting for the second time in the inning, was hit by the first pitch he saw.

That set Joey Parliment to blast his eighth home run of the year, a three-run shot to make it 9-0 Trojans. Haven Mangrum followed with his third homer of the year, a solo shot to right field to complete the home run cycle in the inning for Trevecca.

With two outs in the bottom of the first, the Eagles joined the home run conversation with a three-run homer down the left field line to make it a 10-3 ballgame. The Eagles went yard again in the fourth to break a two and a half inning scoring drought to make it a 10-5 game. In the sixth, Trevecca added five more runs including another grand slam, this time off the bat of Abbott Lawrence for his second home run of the day. Andru Becker previously scored off another error by Carson-Newman as the Trojans led 15-5 heading into the seventh.

Three consecutive singles with the bases loaded plated three more runs in the seventh for the visiting Trojans who shut down the Eagles in the bottom half of the inning to win 18-5.
