OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (20-15, 13-7 Great Midwest) split its doubleheader (7-1, 6-7) with the Panthers of Kentucky Wesleyan College (14-21, 12-6 Great Midwest) on Sunday at Panther Park. The Trojans took the series 3-1 and return home vs. Cedarville next weekend. It is the final homestand of the year for the Purple and White.
Logan Harrell (3-1) started on the mound for the Trojans in game one and produced the third consecutive complete game for the Trojans. The three complete games this weekend double the Trojans complete games on the year.
Harrell delivered his first career complete game following
Spencer Wilkins and
Caleb Marks going the distance in the Trojan wins on Saturday. Wilkins turned in his first complete game while Marks got his second to tie Sunday game two starter
Jack Keele for the team lead.
SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
Trevecca leads the all-time series 25-16. The series between KWC and TNU, two founding members of the Great Midwest, is one of the longest in the history of conference. The Panthers win in the series finale snapped the Trojans five-game win streak in the series.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE
Trevecca broke the scoreless tie of the scheduled seven-inning game with a three-run top of the third.
Haven Mangrum doubled to drive in the first two runs, scoring
Joey Parliment and
Andru Becker.
Cole McCallum followed with an RBI-single that scored Mangrum. A solo home run for the Panthers in their half of the fourth made it a 3-1 game. The Trojans responded with a two-run fifth and sixth for the final scoring in the game. In the fifth, it was a two-run bomb from
Cole McCallum. In the sixth,
Joey Parliment drove in
Carter Warner on a sac fly, then
Haven Mangrum singled to score Becker.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME ONE
Logan Harrell allowed four hit and no walks or hit-by-pitch while striking out six.
Four Trojans had multi-hit games, led by
Haven Mangrum's 3-4 performance. Mangrum drove in three runs and scored twice with a double.
Cole McCallum went 2-4 with a run scored, a homer, and three RBI.
Andrew Becker, who doubled, and
Joey Parliment both had two hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO
KWC took a 3-0 lead with a three-run second inning on a bases loaded double. The Trojans rallied in their half of the third.
Haven Mangrum singled to drive in
Andru Becker and
Cole McCallum drove in
Joey Parliment with a single, making it 3-2 KWC. The home team added a run in the sixth for a 4-2 lead. In the seventh, the Trojans took the lead with four-run inning.

Joey Parliment's three-run home run put the visitors up 6-4. KWC took advantage of a throwing error on the Trojans to tie the game at 6-6, eventually pushing the game to extra innings. In the tenth, the Panthers were able to walk it off to salvage the final game of the series to stave off a Trojan four-game sweep.

Trevecca hosts Cedarville University (8-25, 4-12 Great Midwest) next weekend, April 19-20, at Jackson Field - Friday at 2 PM and Saturday at Noon. The Yellowjackets and Trojans are founding members of the Great Midwest and have the longest head-to-head series. The Trojans lead the series 40-7. Three of CU's seven wins have come in the last seven meetings.
Trevecca visits Carson-Newman University (22-17) Tuesday, April 23 at 3 PM in Jefferson City, TN. The Eagles lead the all-time series, during the NCAA Division II era, 4-2.
Their final two Great Midwest series are on the road at Thomas More University and Ohio Dominican University.
The Thomas More (10-27, 3-19 Great Midwest) series is April 26-27 in Florence, Ky. This is the first meeting between the Trojans and Saints. The Saints are in their first season in the Great Midwest.
The final series is May 2-3 at Ohio Dominican (17-15, 8-8 Great Midwest) in Columbus, Ohio. Trevecca leads the all-time series 15-5, but ODU has won the last two games in the series.
