NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University softball team (34-10, 16-2 Great Midwest) beat Kentucky Wesleyan College (15-23, 6-12 Great Midwest) 8-2 and 8-0, on Saturday at the Trevecca Softball Complex on Sunday.
The Trojans have won 16 of their last 17 and 20 of their last 22.
TNU is 24-13 all-time now in the series with KWC. The Trojans have won six in a row in the series and 11 of last 12 with the Panthers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
GM 1: TNU 8, KWC 2
Trevecca scored five runs in their half of the first inning to take a commanding lead that
Ashlan Sensing made standup with another complete game.
In the first,
Anna Bennett started the scoring with a one-out homer. Later,
Addy Grace Summers doubled to left center, driving in
Kyleigh Burgett and
Ashlan Sensing.
Annabelle Ellis capped the scoring with a two-run single that scored
Sydney McCormick and Summers.
Trevecca added one run in the second, third, and fourth innings.
CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES
Ashlan Sensing improved to 17-6 with another complete game performance.
Sensing pitched seven innings and sat down six on strikes and walked just one.
Addy Grace Summers,
Sydney McCormick, and
Annabelle Ellis each had a double.
Summers and Ellis each drove in two runs.
Anna Bennett went 2-4 with a run scored and an RBI on the homer.
GM 2: TNU 8, KWC 0
Game two saw the Trojans get a similar story with a complete game shutout from
Halle Grace Patton in the circle and all the runs they'd need with a six-run bottom of the first.
Anna Bennett was key again, hitting a single that moved
Kendall Andrews to third and then Andrews scored when the Panther center fielder committed an error on the throw in.
Ashlan Sensing singled to score Bennett. Later, on back-to-back at bats,
Addy Grace Summers and
Maddie Poschke drove in a run when they were hit by a pitch.
Kendall Andrews singled in
Kyleigh Burgett. The final run of the inning came on a wild pitch that scored Summers.
CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES
Halle Grace Patton (9-2) pitched a complete game, getting the shutout over five innings. She allowed four hits and a hit-by-pitch against no runs or walks.
Kendall Andrews and
Annabelle Ellis each had two hits and scored a run. Andrews added two stolen bases, a walk, and an RBI to her totals.
Six different Trojans had an RBI.
NEXT ON THE DIAMOND
The Trojans play their next four games at home, completing a 10-game home stand.
The Dragons of Tiffin University (20-18, 6-8 Great Midwest) arrive on Friday, April 9, 2024 in a doubleheader starting at 2 PM. TNU owns a 7-3 edge in the all-time series, but have lost two of the last three with TU.
On Saturday, the Trojans host the Oilers of the University of Findlay (19-17, 6-8 Great Midwest) for their final regular season home games of the year. The doubleheader starts at 1 PM. TNU has a 6-5 lead in the series and have won the last three meetings.
The Trojans finish out the regular season with a four-game road swing to Thomas More University (9-27, 4-12 Great Midwest), the Saints host the Trojans for two beginning at 1 PM. TNU and TMU have never met in softball. This is the first year in the G-MAC for the Saints.
The final doubleheader is at Cedarville University (17-22, 10-6 Great Midwest) on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 11 AM. TNU owns a 29-7 record versus CU, the longest rival for the Trojans in the NCAA Division II era. The series has grown closer recently after the Trojans won 21 of the first 22 meetings. In 2017 and 2018, the Yellowjackets turned the series in their favor winning five of seven meetings. Trevecca has won six of the last seven.
