NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University softball team (36-10, 18-2 Great Midwest) swept Tiffin University (22-22, 8-12 Great Midwest) on Friday afternoon at the Trevecca Softball Complex.
The Trojans host the University of Findlay on Saturday, beginning at 1:00 PM. It's Senior Day with a ceremony following the doubleheader.
The Trojans have won ten in a row, 18 of their last 19, and 22 of their last 24.
Trevecca is 9-3 all-time against Tiffin since the Dragons joined the Great Midwest prior to the 2018-19 season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
GM 1: TNU 8, TU 0 – F/5
With two on in the bottom of the first, Ashlan Sensing brought in what would be the winning run with a ground out. Addy Grace Summers connected for a two-out single to bring the Trojan lead to two after the first. Trevecca tacked on two more runs in the fourth when Anna Bennett hit a single to the shortstop for the 4-0 advantage. A pair of singles and a wild pitch brought in four runs in the fifth to enforce the run rule for the Trojans.
CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES
Anna Bennett was 2-2 with two RBI, a walk and a run scored.
Malone Thrift went 2-2 with two RBI, a walk and a run scored.
Kendall Andrews was 1-2 with two walks, two runs scored and an RBI.
Ashlan Sensing improved to 18-6 with another complete game performance.
Sensing pitched five innings while throwing a one hit shutout with two strikeouts.
GM 2: TNU 7, TU 6
The Trojans struck first again in game two with a two-run bottom of the first. After Tiffin singled a run in with one out in the second neither team scored in the third inning. The Trojans exploded for a five run fourth inning highlighted by a three-run home run off the bat of Annabelle Ellis. Sydney McCormick singled in a run as well to give Trevecca a 7-1 lead. Despite the Dragon's best effort in the fifth, a five-run frame for the visitors, the Trojans shut down Tiffin in the sixth and seventh inning hanging on for the 7-6 win.
CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES
Kyleigh Burgett was 3-4 with a run scored.
Annabelle Ellis went 1-3 with three RBI, a walk and a run scored.
Maddie Poschke was 2-3 with two RBI.
Halle Grace Patton (10-2) started and went 4.1 innings allowing four runs and six hits. She struck out one and was relieved by Alex Behnke (S, 2). Behnke tossed 2.2 innings while striking out three and allowing two runs.
NEXT ON THE DIAMOND
On Saturday, the Trojans host the Oilers of the University of Findlay (23-17, 10-8 Great Midwest) for their final regular season home games of the year. The doubleheader starts at 1 PM. TNU has a 6-5 lead in the series and have won the last three meetings.
The Trojans finish out the regular season with a four-game road swing to Thomas More University (12-28, 6-12 Great Midwest), the Saints host the Trojans for two beginning at 1 PM. TNU and TMU have never met in softball. This is the first year in the G-MAC for the Saints.
The final doubleheader is at Cedarville University (18-27, 11-9 Great Midwest) on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 11 AM. TNU owns a 29-7 record versus CU, the longest rival for the Trojans in the NCAA Division II era. The series has grown closer recently after the Trojans won 21 of the first 22 meetings. In 2017 and 2018, the Yellowjackets turned the series in their favor winning five of seven meetings. Trevecca has won six of the last seven.
2024 Great Midwest Championship Central
The Trojans final run at the Great Midwest Championships is May 1-4 at Firestone Stadium in Akron, Ohio.
