Trevecca Baseball | Trojans Sweep KWC; Series Finale Sunday at Noon

OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (19-14, 12-6 Great Midwest) took two, 4-2 and 11-3, from the Panthers of Kentucky Wesleyan College (13-20, 11-5 Great Midwest) on Saturday at Panther Park.  
 
On the day the Trojans got two complete games on the mound from Spencer Wilkins and Caleb Marks. Abbott Lawrence led the offense, going 3-6 at the plate with four runs scored, three homers, and five RBI. He walked twice for a .625 on base percentage over the two games.
 
Trevecca and Kentucky Wesleyan finish their series on Sunday with a double header beginning at Noon.
  
SERIES HISTORY/NOTES  
Trevecca leads the all-time series 24-15. The series between KWC and TNU, two founding members of the Great Midwest, is one of the longest in the history of conference. The Trojans have won four in a row in the series.
  
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE  
The Trojans got on the board first with a run in the fourth on an RBI-single from Cole McCallum. Andru Becker scored. The Panthers tied the game at 1-1 with a run in the fifth and pulled ahead 2-1 with a run in their half of the fifth. Abbott Lawrence homered in the seventh to tie the game at 2-2. Cole McCallum came through again in the eighth with another single that eventually scored Haven Mangrum following a throwing error on the Panthers, giving the Trojans the go ahead run. Roland Ryan provided insurance with an RBI-single that also scored Cooper Whitt in the eighth.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME ONE  
Spencer Wilkins (4-2) pitched a complete game, going nine innings and scattering seven hits. He allowed two runs but no walks or hit-by-pitch. He sat down five Panthers on strikes.  
Cole McCallum and Roland Ryan both had two hits and an RBI.
Abbott Lawrence went 1-3 with a home run, run scored, RBI, and a walk.
  
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO  
in a scheduled seven inning game, the Trojans fell behind when the Panthers plated a run in the bottom of the first. The Trojan offense responded with a three-run second and a two run third for a 5-1 lead. In the second, Andru Becker singled to drive in Abbott Lawrence before Joey Parliment homered to score Becker. In the third, it was Abbott Lawrence again, this time with a two-run home run.  
The Panthers scored just two more runs, one in the fourth and fifth, but TNU wasn't done scoring. The Trojans two in the fifth, one in the sixth, and three in the seventh for the 11-3 final.
In the fifth, it was Cole McCallum going deep again, the time a two-run bomb. The run in the sixth came when Haven Mangrum reached on a fielder's choice and Andy Napier scored. The three-run seventh started with a two-run launch by Abbott Lawrence, his second of the game. Joey Parliment capped his day and game with an RBI-single that scored Andy Napier.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME TWO  
Caleb Marks (4-0) pitched another complete game allowing three runs, two earned, while striking out four. He allowed six hits and a walk.
Joey Parliment went 3-5 at the plate with a run scored, three RBI, and a homer.
Cole McCallum went 2-4 with two runs scored, two RBI, and a homer.
Abbott Lawrence went 2-3 with three runs scored, four RBI, a walk, and two homers.
 
NEXT ON THE DIAMOND   
Trevecca hosts Cedarville University (8-25, 4-12 Great Midwest) next weekend, April 19-20, at Jackson Field - Friday at 2 PM and Saturday at Noon. The Yellowjackets and Trojans are founding members of the Great Midwest and have the longest head-to-head series. The Trojans lead the series 40-7. Three of CU's seven wins have come in the last seven meetings.
 
Trevecca visits Carson-Newman University (22-17) Tuesday, April 23 at 3 PM in Jefferson City, TN. The Eagles lead the all-time series, during the NCAA Division II era, 4-2.
 
Their final two Great Midwest series are on the road at Thomas More University and Ohio Dominican University.
 
The Thomas More (10-25, 3-17 Great Midwest) series is April 26-27 in Florence, Ky. This is the first meeting between the Trojans and Saints. The Saints are in their first season in the Great Midwest.
 
The final series is May 2-3 at Ohio Dominican (17-15, 8-8 Great Midwest) in Columbus, Ohio. Trevecca leads the all-time series 15-5, but ODU has won the last two games in the series.
