NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (7-6) took out the University of Huntsville (12-8), 13-9, on Wednesday in a non-conference midweek game at Jackson Field.
SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
This is the 15th meeting, all non-conference games, since the Trojan moved to NCAA Division II play. UAH holds a 9-6 edge in the series. Trevecca has won two in a row and five of the last eight meetings.
Starting next season, the teams will play a three-game Gulf South Conference series each season as the Trojans will join the Chargers in the GSC.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trevecca scored four in their half of the second. Both teams scored at least one run in the next four innings. UAH scored two in the third, one in the fourth, one in the fifth, and two in the sixth. Trevecca scored one in the third, two in the fourth, four in the fifth, and two in the sixth. When the dust settled, Trevecca led 13-6 after six. The Chargers kept closing the gap, scoring one run in the last three innings. In all, UAH scored at least a run in the last seven innings.
In the fourth,
David Milam and
Roland Ryan lead off the inning with back-to-back singles. An out later,
Josh Seiler doubled home both Milam and Ryan for a 2-0 lead.
Josh Griffin singled next, moving Seiler to third.
Haven Mangrum singled and an error on the throw scored Seiler.
Cooper Whitt walked to load the bases for
Joey Parliment who also walked, forcing in Griffin from third for a 4-0 Trojan lead.
In the fourth,
David Milam and
Roland Ryan hit back-to-back home runs with one away.
The other four-run inning was the Trojan fifth.
Josh Griffin walked to lead off the inning,
Haven Mangrum singled, and
Cooper Whitt walked to set the table for a big inning with the bases loaded and no one out.
Joey Parliment drove in a run with a sac fly,
Cole McCallum singled to drive in a run,
David Milam singled to drive in a run, and
Roland Ryan reached on a fielder's choice and McCallum scored on a throwing error.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Logan Harrell (1-0) got his first collegiate win in his first career start. The freshman from Goodpasture Christian School allowed one run on four hits with three walks and five strikeouts.
Haven Mangrum (3-5),
David Milam (3-4), and
Josh Seiler (3-5) all had three-hit games.
Roland Ryan went 2-5 and
Josh Griffin was 2-3. Milam and Ryan both homered while Seiler hit a double. Mangrum, Milam, Seiler,
Cooper Whitt, and
Joey Parliment all had two RBI. Seiler and Griffin both had a stolen base.
The Chargers had seven players get at least one hit in the game, but the Trojans scored their 13 runs on 15 hits.
The Chargers had just one extra-base hit in the game.
UP NEXT
Trevecca takes a little more than a week off before they begin their final trip around the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.
They start the conference schedule with Lake Erie College (4-5) visiting for four games on March 15-16 at Jackson Field.
Delta State University (12-8), a future Gulf South foe, visits for a mid-week game on March 19.
Malone University (3-9) comes to town next for a four-game series at Jackson Field on March 22-23.
