NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (8-7, 1-1) opened the four-game series with Lake Erie College (9-8, 1-1) splitting a pair of games at Jackson Field on Saturday.
SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
The Storm snapped the Trojans' 11-game winning streak against the Storm dating back to the 2021 season. Overall, Trevecca leads the series 12-7.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE
After Trojan starter
Caleb Marks set the Storm down in order in the first, the Trojans took a 1-0 lead in the home half of the inning when
Cole McCallum poked a single to center field. A throwing error in the second tied the game at 1-1 before the Trojans added two runs in the bottom of the third.
David Milam singled right center field, driving in a run while another run scored off an error by the right fielder. Joey Parliament homered to left center field in the fifth inning to give Trevecca a 4-1 lead.
The bats were quiet until the eighth, when the Trojans added some insurance runs. McCallum hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score a run and
Roland Ryan connected for a two-run shot over the left field wall to see Trevecca to a 7-1 advantage. A sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth by the Storm finished off the scoring.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME ONE
* Cole McCallum was 3-4 and had two RBIs with a run scored.
* Roland Ryan went 1-4 with two RBIs, a run scored and a walk.
* Joey Parliment was 1-2 with three walks, an RBI and two runs scored.
* Caleb Marks (1-0) started and went six innings to pick up his first win of the season. Marks struck out 11 while allowing just three hits and one unearned run.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO
The Storm quickly got on the scoreboard in game two with a leadoff home run to left field. The Trojans managed just three hits for the game as Lake Erie broke the game open in the sixth. An RBI single and double pushed the lead to 3-0 before the Storm received their second long shot of the day. A two-run homer to left field to finish off the 5-0 win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME TWO
* Josh Seiler was 1-3 with a double.
* Jonah Smithson (1-2) started and went five innings allowing just one earned run and striking out 10 with three hits allowed in the loss.
