WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Trevecca Nazarene University softball team (13-7) split two more games at the 2024 PFX Spring Games on Tuesday morning.
In game one, Trevecca defeated the Concordia University–St. Paul (10-4) for the first time in school history before falling to the University of Minnesota Duluth (12-5) in game two. The Trojans and Bears are tied 1-1 in the all-time series while the Bulldogs lead the series with the Trojans 2-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
GM 1: TNU 6, CONCORDIA-ST. PAUL 4
For the second time in as many days, Kyleigh Burgett hit a home run, this time to give Trevecca a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
Anna Bennett connected for an RBI single in the third to give the Trojans a two-run advantage. Three RBI singles in the fourth got the Bears on the scoreboard before an error in the bottom half of the inning tied the game at 3-3 through four innings. The Bears picked up their fourth and final run in the fifth once again off an RBI single. Trailing by a run, the Trojans pieced together a three-run fifth inning highlighted by a
Kendall Andrews two-run double to right field and a Burgett single to right field to help the Trojans to the 6-4 win.
CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES
* Anna Bennett was a perfect 3-3 with one RBI and one run scored.
* Kyleigh Burgett was also perfect going 3-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
* Kendall Andrews was the only other Trojan with a base hit, going 1-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.
* Ashlan Sensing (6-4) started and threw a complete game for the Trojans. Sensing allowed nine hits, but just three earned runs and had five strikeouts in the win.
GM 2: MINNESOTA DULUTH 9, TNU 8
Trevecca exploded for a four-run second inning and a three-run fourth inning to take a commanding 7-0 lead into the fifth. The Trojans couldn't quite put a cap on the game with a run-shortened five inning game though as the Bulldogs punched back with a five-run fifth inning.
Kendall Andrews homered in the top of the seventh to give Trevecca an 8-5 lead, but the Bulldogs came all the way back capped off by an RBI single to center in the bottom of the seventh for the 9-8 win.
CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES
* Malone Thrift stole two bases and was 1-3 with two runs scored.
* Alex Behnke (3-1) came on in relief to toss 2.0 innings collective two strikeouts, three walks and one earned run.
