ER HAVEN, Fla. – The Trevecca Nazarene University softball team (14-8) split two more games at the 2024 PFX Spring Games on Thursday morning.
In game one, Trevecca defeated Bemidji State University (6-10) for the first time in school history and then later fell to Goldey-Beacom College (3-14) in game two. The Trojans lead the Beavers 1-0 and trail the Lightning 1-0 in the all-time series.
HOW IT HAPPENED
GM 1: TNU 3, BEMIDJI STATE 1
After a 1-2-3 top of the first inning for the Trojans, the Beavers plated their only run of the game in the bottom half of the inning on a one-out fielder's choice. Trevecca was held scoreless through the first four innings before breaking through in the fifth to tie the game at 1-1.
Anna Bennett connected for an RBI single up the middle to get the Trojans on the board. Trevecca put the game away in the sixth by scoring two runs, both on errors by the Beavers.
Kyleigh Burgett touched home on an error by the pitcher while
Annabelle Ellis scored off an error by the third baseman helping the Trojans to the 3-1 win.
CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES
* Annabelle Ellis was a perfect 3-3 with a double and a run scored.
* Anna Bennett went 2-3 with a walk, stolen base and an RBI.
* Ashlan Sensing (7-4) started and threw a complete game for the Trojans. Sensing allowed just one run and three hits, while striking out six and issuing one walk in the win.
* Sensing leads the Great Midwest in strikeouts, wins and innings pitched.
GM 2: GOLDEY-BEACOM 3, TNU 1
Both sides collected three hits each, with GBC making the most of its opportunities. It was the Trojans who struck first with a
Callie Williams ground out RBI in the bottom of the third to bring in
Anna Bennett. The Lightning were kept off the scoreboard until the top of the sixth when they got the game-winning at bat from Bryn Bohmann, a two-run single to left field. The seventh inning saw GBC score once more, an RBI single to
Kyleigh Burgett to give the Lightning the 3-1 win.
CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES
* Anna Bennett went 1-4 with a triple and the lone run scored.
* Alex Behnke (3-2) tossed a complete game allowing just two earned runs and three hits in the loss. Behnke collected one strikeout and issued three walks.
