WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Trevecca Nazarene University softball team (12-6) split a pair of games to kick off the 2024 PFX Spring Games on Monday morning.
In game one, Trevecca defeated the University of Mary (6-11) for the second time in school history before falling to St. Cloud State University (11-4) in game two. The Huskies own a 4-1 all-time series lead.
HOW IT HAPPENED
GM 1: TNU 6, UMARY 0
The Trojans got on the scoreboard early, with a two-out home run by
Kendall Andrews in the first inning to set the tone for the day. After taking the second inning off, Trevecca plated two runs in the third.
Malone Thrift led the inning off with a walk and was brought in off the bat of Andrews who connected for her second home run of the game. Andrews sent her second long ball well past the right center field fence.
Kyleigh Burgett joined the home run club in the fourth with a solo shot to left center to give the Trojans a 4-0 lead. In the fifth inning, Andrews took a break from hitting homers, but did drive Thrift once again with an RBI single to left field.
Katie Brooks closed the scoring for Trevecca in the sixth inning with a sacrifice fly to left field brought in
Gracie Kirby to help the Trojans to the 6-0 win.
CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES
* Kendall Andrews went 3-4 with four RBIs, two runs scored and two home runs. Andrews is now tied for first in the Great Midwest with four home runs on the season.
* Halle Grace Patton (3-2) came on in relief of Trojan starter
Alex Behnke to toss 4.2 innings of three-hit scoreless softball. Patton struck out eight.
GM 2: ST. CLOUD 4, TNU 1
Trevecca once again scored first and in the first inning, but it was all the offense could muster in game two.
Callie Williams sent a ball to left field for a single and brought in
Anna Bennett for the 1-0 lead the Trojans held until the fourth. A solo home run and an RBI double in the fourth for the Huskies gave St. Cloud State the 2-1 lead. The Huskies scored twice more in the seventh for insurance off an RBI single and a sacrifice to go on for the 4-1 win.
CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES
* Anna Bennett led off and got one of the Trojans two hits on the day. She went 1-3 with a run scored.
* Ashlan Sensing (5-4) started and went 3.1 innings allowing two runs and four hits. Sensing struck out five and allow three walks in the loss.
