NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University softball team (23-9, 5-1 Great Midwest) returned to conference play against Ursuline College (5-11, 0-2 Great Midwest) sweeping the Arrows at the Trevecca Softball Complex on Saturday.
Trevecca is 24-2 all-time versus Ursuline and currently owns a eight-game winning streak in the series.
HOW IT HAPPENED
GM 1: TNU 17, UC 3 – F/5
Trevecca jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first after Annabelle Ellis singled to right field.
Sydney McCormick hit a two-run single to the shortstop to round out the scoring. The Trojans added four more in the second inning behind an
Ashlan Sensing two run home run to left center field, a fielder's choice RBI by Ellis and a
Sydney McCormick run scoring single.
Ashlan Sensing was on her way to another shutout until the third inning when Ursuline got a run off a bases loaded hit-by-pitch.
Trevecca blew open the game in the fourth with 10 runs. After a strikeout to lead off the inning, the Trojans put six runs across before collecting their second out of the frame. In total, three runs were unearned, one was off an error, three were off singles, and three via a home run.
Ursuline countered only with a two-run fifth inning off a double, as the Trojans collected their sixth run shortened game of the season.
CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES
* Eight different Trojans collected at least one hit, combining for 12.
* Ashlan Sensing helped her cause offensively by going 2-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored.
* Ashlan Sensing (11-5) started and went four innings. Sensing allowed just two hits and one earned run while striking out nine of the 16 batters she faced.
* Sensing leads the Great Midwest in strikeouts, wins and innings pitched.
* It was the sixth run-shortened game of the season for the Trojans.
GM 2: TNU 8, UC 3
With two outs in the bottom of the first, the Trojans scored their first run. Kyleigh Burgett singled in
Sarah Nicholson for the 1-0 lead. Trevecca scored two runs in the third to take a 3-0 lead after
Kendall Andrews homered to left field. Despite allowing a single run in the fourth, the Trojans put together a three-run fifth inning to lead 6-1.
Annabelle Ellis singled to center and later scored off Burgett's double to left. A sacrifice fly out let Burgett score. Both sides added two runs in the sixth. Ursuline off a single to left field and Andrews connected for her second homer of the game, this time sending the ball over the center field wall to lift the Trojans to the 8-3 win.
CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES
* Six different Trojans collected at least one hit, with three collecting two or more.
* Annabell Ellis went 3-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
* Hale Grace Patton (6-2) started and five innings to get the win. Getting seven strikeouts against one run and three hits allowed. She allowed one HBP, but no walks.
NEXT ON THE DIAMOND
The Trojans host Lake Erie College (0-16, 0-2 Great Midwest) on Sunday for a doubleheader beginning at noon.
Trevecca is 10-1 all-time versus Lake Erie with the Storm snapping the 10-game winning streak in last season's game two one run win.
