NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (11-9, 4-2 Great Midwest) opened the four-game series with Malone University (3-17, 0-7 Great Midwest), taking both games at Jackson Field on Friday.
SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
Trevecca is currently on an 13-game winning streak versus Malone having won 15 of the 18 all-time meetings with the Pioneers. The last Pioneer win came in 2017.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE
Trevecca opened the scoring in the bottom of the first when Roland Ryan hit a single through the left side to plate Joey Parliment. With one gone in the third, the Trojans doubled their lead with a fly out to center field which allowed
Carter Warner a pass to home. Another RBI single, a double by
Cole McCallum and a sacrifice fly pushed the Trojans lead to 5-0 after eight innings complete as Trevecca shutout the Pioneers in game one.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME ONE
* Four Trojans collected at least one hit while with two batters enjoying multi-hit days.
* Roland Ryan went 2-3 as the designated hitter with an RBI.
* Caleb Marks (2-0) started and went eight innings, allowing just six hits while striking out 11.
* James Dickson came on for an inning of relief for Marks who threw 98 pitches to help complete the shutout.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO
The Pioneers got their first run of the day off a sacrifice fly in the top of the first. Trevecca needed four innings to home plate, though. With two outs in the bottom of the fourth,
Haven Mangrum cleared the bases loaded situation with a double to right center field. For good measure, Mangrum doubled to right center again in the sixth to give the Trojans their fourth run of the day. Despite allowing an RBI single in the top of the seventh, the Trojans shut down the Pioneers for their second win of the day.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME TWO
Five Trojans collected at least one hit while Haven Mangrum had three.
* Jonah Smithson (2-2) started and went five innings, striking out three and allowing just one earned run.
