SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
The Trojans and Statesmen had never met before today's game in baseball.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trevecca got a run home first after
Abbott Lawrence's leadoff double led to
Cooper Whitt driving him in with a single. The Trojans advantage did not last for long as the Statesmen managed three runs in the bottom half of the inning. A one-run single and a two-run double set the stage scoring wise for the first four innings.
In the bottom of the fifth, Delta State connected for a two-out RBI double to right center field to give the home side a 4-1 lead. Trevecca needed until the eighth inning to get the run back when
Abbott Lawrence hit a sacrifice fly to allow
Cole McCallum to score.
Down 4-2 in the ninth, the Trojans took their first lead of the day.
Joey Parliment singled home
Cooper Whitt who led the inning off reaching via an error. McCallum then cleared the bases with a go-ahead two-run homer to left field to give Trevecca a 5-4 lead.
The Statesmen led the bottom half of the ninth with a leadoff double which quickly tied the game after the next batter reached via an error. After a sacrifice bunt moved the winning run into scoring position, a hit-by-pitch and a single loaded the bases. Two pitches later, the game winning single was sent to left field for the 6-5 Delta State win.
