CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The Trevecca Nazarene University men's basketball team (15-11, 10-8 Great Midwest) lost to Cedarville University (18-10, 12-6 Great Midwest), 85-76, on Saturday afternoon in the Callan Athletic Center.
The Yellow Jackets lead the all-time series 19-9 after the Trojans won the first meeting 89-86 in Trojan Fieldhouse on February 8.
BREAKING IT DOWN
Sharpshooting from beyond the arc by the Yellow Jackets put the Trojans in a quick 12-0 hole. The Trojans broke through with a basket from
Peter Lambesis but faced a 20-11 deficit with under 10 minutes to play. The Trojans tried to inch their way closer with some 3-point shooting but trailed 44-26 at the half.
Trevecca closed the deficit to as little as eight in the opening minutes of the second half with some clutch shooting from
Peter Lambesis who scored five of the first eight points out of the half. With 4:26 to play, the Trojans got within five points at 67-62 after
Tommy Gankhuyag hit a free-throw, but the Yellow Jackets withstood the run and held on for the 85-76 win.
KEY PLAYERS
Jalen Page finished with a team-high 24 points and three rebounds while
Tommy Gankhuyag had 18 points and six rebounds.
Peter Lambesis finished off a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds on 6-14 shooting.
TEAM TIME
Trevecca shot 43.9% (25-57) from the field, 34.8% (8-23) from three and 18-24 (75.0%) from the foul line.
Trevecca won the rebound battle, 37-34 but Cedarville held the edge in assists, 18-9 and steals, 8-4.
