NORTH CANTON, Ohio – The Trevecca Nazarene University men's basketball team (15-10, 10-7 Great Midwest) fell to Walsh University (18-5, 12-5 Great Midwest), 72-49, on Thursday evening in the Cecchini Center.
The Cavaliers lead the all-time series 11-2 having won three of the last four games.
BREAKING IT DOWN
From the game's first basket, Walsh led the entire way. Handing the Trojans their 10th loss of the season. After a quick 5-0 run was stopped by a
Jalen Page jumper, the closest the Trojans would keep it the rest of the half was after
Peter Lambesis' jumper at the 16:41 mark. The 8-4 lead by the Cavaliers quickly ballooned to 12-4 and was all Walsh from there. The Cavaliers created further separation with an 11-0 run to take a 28-11 lead with 9:41 to play in the half.
Walsh controlled a 43-28 advantage at halftime.
Scoring for both sides slowed down in the second half. The Cavaliers earned the first seven points, followed by eight straight for the Trojans who were as close as they'd get at the 13:37 mark of the half, trailing 50-36. Walsh closed out Trevecca down the stretch, outscoring the Trojans by nine to win 72-49.
KEY PLAYERS
Peter Lambesis collected a
team-high 18 points and had 10 rebounds to finish up the double-double. No other Trojans reached double figures, though Jamal Cannady had nine points and two rebounds.
Tommy Gankhuyag added four points and eight rebounds.
TEAM TIME
Trevecca shot 38.0% (19-50) from the field, 14.3% (3-21) from three and 8-12 (66.7%) from the foul line.
Trevecca won the rebound battle, 40-28 but Walsh held the edge in assists, 12-7 and steals, 10-4.
