Trevecca Men’s Basketball | Panthers Push Past Trojans

NASHVILLE The Trevecca Nazarene University men's basketball team (14-9, 9-6 Great Midwest) dropped a crucial Great Midwest game to Kentucky Wesleyan College (17-6, 11-4 Great Midwest), 101-82, on Thursday evening in Trojan Fieldhouse. 
 
The Panthers extend their winning streak to six games over the Trojans and improved to 18-3 all-time with the victory. 
 
BREAKING IT DOWN 
After scoring the first five points of the game, the Trojans held onto a five-point lead for the 
opening six minutes of play. The Panthers utilized a 12-2 run to go from down five to up five with 10:19 to play. Trevecca responded with a quick spurt of seven straight points to pull within two at 24-22 before the Panthers created some breathing room. Following a three-minute stretch, KWC scored 14 straight points to grab a 36-24 lead with 5:30 to play. Behind the clutch shooting effort of Kennedy Miles, KWC saw its lead grow to 15 at 42-27 and 50-35 before a buzzer beating shot by Borja Fernandez gave the visitors a 52-35 advantage at the half. 
  
The second half brought more intensity and scoring from the Trojans side who came up short in the end. From the 10:04 mark to just over four minutes to play Trevecca was able to cut into the deficit and make it a 12-point game at 85-73. The next two minutes saw the Panthers match the Trojans offensively blow for blow and hold onto their double digit lead the rest of the way. Kentucky Wesleyan scored the final eight points of the contest to hold on for the 101-82 win. 
 
KEY PLAYERS 
Jalen Page produced a team-high 22 points to go with three steals, two assists and two rebounds on 7-14 shooting. Peter Lambesis added 21 points, four assists and three rebounds. Jamal Cannady had 16 points and three assists and Caleb Terry finished with 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds. 
 
TEAM TIME 
Trevecca shot 49.2% (29-59) from the field, 48.3% (14-29) from three and 10-17 (58.8%) from the foul line. 
 
Kentucky Wesleyan outrebounded the Trojans 40-23 and had five more assists, 23-18. The Trojans poked loose two more steals, 6-4. 
 
UP NEXT 
Trevecca welcomes Tiffin University (15-8, 9-6 Great Midwest) to conclude its four-game homestand on Senior Day, Saturday, February 17 at 1:00 pm. 
 
The Dragons lead the all-time series 7-4 after defeating Trevecca 81-77 earlier this season in Ohio. Tiffin has won the last five games in the series.
