JACKSON, Tenn. – The Trevecca Nazarene University men's soccer team (5-7-3, 4-4-2 GSC) secured a 4-2 victory over Union University (6-8-1, 1-7-1 GSC) on Friday night, clinching their first postseason appearance since 2017.
THE SERIES
This was the 19th meeting between the Trojans and the Bulldogs, with Union maintaining the historical advantage (13-5-1).
THE GAME
The Trojans came out strong in the first half, scoring two early goals to set the tone.
Sam Barrionuevo opened the scoring in the 12th minute, capitalizing on a
Chris Douglas assist.
Shortly after,
Phillip Collins doubled the lead at the 21st minute with a second assist from Douglas, sending Trevecca into halftime with a solid 2-0 advantage.
Union fought back in the second half, with Diego Medina converting a penalty kick in the 58th minute to cut the Trojans' lead in half. The Bulldogs then tied it up at 2-2 in the 77th minute through a goal from Jamie Chamberlain.
Just as Union felt they pulled the comeback, Trevecca responded quickly, determined not to let the game slip away.
Josh Farrell reclaimed the lead for the Trojans in the 84th minute, thanks to a well-placed assist from
Joey Houser. Just minutes later, on a deadly counterattack,
Chris Douglas secured the victory with a goal in the 86th minute, assisted by
Cian Walder.
UP NEXT
The Trojans will conclude their regular season on the road against Christian Brothers University (9-3-3, 6-1-3 GSC) on Sunday. Following this final match, Trevecca will head to the GSC quarterfinals on November 9, marking their first appearance in the Gulf South Conference postseason in their debut season.
