NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Trevecca Nazarene University men's soccer team faced a tough challenge against defending Gulf South Conference champions, the University of West Florida, falling 6-1 at the Trojan Soccer Complex on Friday night. The loss drops Trevecca to 2-5-2 on the season and 1-3-1 in GSC play.
THE SERIES
This marks the second meeting between the Argonauts and Trojans in men's soccer. West Florida also won the previous encounter, 5-0.
THE GAME
West Florida took control early, opening the scoring in the 17th minute when a deflection off a save by Trojans' goalkeeper Adan Gonzales landed at the feet of Kendrick Hernandez, who finished to make it 1-0.
The Argos doubled their lead in the 27th minute after a defensive miscommunication allowed Jaime Guillen to intercept a pass and set up Keegan Ancelin for his first goal of the night. Two minutes later, Ancelin struck again, pouncing on a loose ball after a pass-back miscue by Trevecca, weaving through defenders and placing the ball into the back of the net to make it 3-0.
The Trojans pulled one back in the 41st minute when
Warren Worley scored from outside th box scored, bringing the game to 3-1.
Just 90 seconds later, West Florida responded with a goal from Josiah Fontenot, who capitalized on a deflection to make it 4-1 before the break.
In the 57th minute, Ancelin completed his hat trick after a quick interchange with Fontenot, chipping the ball to make it 5-1.
Mar Aegisson added a sixth goal in the 74th minute, finishing with a low shot into the right corner to secure the 6-1 victory.
