HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (9-14, 6-6 GSC) dropped a match to the University of Alabama-Huntsville (19-3, 10-2 GSC) in Spragins Hall on Friday night.
The Chargers took down the Trojans in four sets, winning, 25-19, 16-25, 25-20, 25-22.
THE SERIES
The Chargers the all-time series 23-5 over the Trojans. UAH holds a 13-3 edge in the Div. II era. UAH swept TNU earlier this season on September 28.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Trojans took the opening point of the night and controlled the match early with a 9-6 lead. UAH countered by taking seven of the next eight points to take a three-point advantage of their own at 13-10. The Trojans could only narrow the gap to as few as two, dropping the opener 25-19, the same set one score in the team's first meeting this season.
Trevecca jumped out to a quick 5-2 lead to start the second and did not look back. Despite a UAH rally to tie it at 5-5, the Trojans went on an 8-3 run to build up a 13-8 advantage. Behind back-to-back kills from
Addison Cunnagin, Trevecca gained its largest lead of the night at 20-11. The Trojans got the set win, 25-16, behind a UAH service error.
The third started much like the second set with the Trojans building up a 9-3 lead. The Chargers battled back to tie it at 14-14. The sides played to a tie at 18 and 19 before the set swayed in favor of the Chargers. Seven of the final eight points went UAH's way to take the set, 25-20.
UAH took early control of the fourth and held a steady lead throughout. The Trojans' runs were stopped short and despite a 4-0 late in the set making it a 23-22 game, the Chargers won the final two points of the night for the set and match win, 25-22.
THE TEAM
Trevecca collectively hit .094 with two service aces, 31 assists, and 50 digs. UAH led in blocks, 13-11 while the Trojans produced one more reception error, 3-2.
THE PLAYERS
Mackenzie O'Loughlin and
Emma Titus both produced eight kills with O'Loughlin adding six blocks.
Maddie Wilds collected a team-high 17 digs while
Skias Hainline added 28 assists with seven digs.
Elizabeth Wells pulled to within two kills of 1,000 with six kills. Hainline now needs just 30 assists to touch the 1,000 mark for her career as well.
