MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (10-14, 7-6 GSC) earned a big GSC win over the University of Montevallo (9-14, 6-7GSC) in Central State Bank Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The Trojans took down the Falcons in four sets, winning, 25-20, 25-19, 25-13, 25-12.
THE SERIES
Trevecca narrowed the all-time series to 4-3 in favor of the Falcons with the four set win on September 27 and today's sweep/win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After the Falcons' hot start yielded a 7-3 lead for the hosts, the Trojans chipped away at the deficit and took the lead back at 12-11. From there, the teams played to a 15-15 tie and Trevecca took the opener by earning four of the final points, 25-20.
Back-to-back service aces gave the Trojans a 9-5 lead early in the second set. After an
Emma Titus kill gave Trevecca the 11-7 advantage, five straight points put the second out of reach, 15-7. Montevallo pulled within two points at 19-17 but the Trojans' fourth service ace of the set gave them the 25-19 win.
The third set saw both sides split the first eight points and then later a 7-0 run by Montevallo tilted the third in favor of the Falcons at 14-6. The Falcons doubled the Trojans up at 20-10 before securing the set win, 25-13.
Trevecca wasted little time taking control of the fourth, taking a 7-3 lead. The Trojans maintained at least a four-point game the rest of the set, taking eight of the final 10 points to win the match, 25-12.
THE TEAM
Trevecca collectively hit .296 with 10 service aces, 43 assists, and 42 digs. Both sides had seven blocks while the Trojans had seven fewer reception errors, 10-3.
THE PLAYERS
Emma Titus offered a team-high 10 kills with three digs while both
Addison Cunnagin and
Mackenzie O'Loughlin had nine kills.
Skias Hainline surpassed 1,000 career assists with 36 assists, adding eight digs. Additionally,
Elizabeth Wells collected eight kills to go over 1,000 kills for her career as well.
UP NEXT
The Trojans begin a three-game week next Tuesday when they square off against Christian Brothers (6-15, 2-9 GSC) at 6:00 p.m. on the 29th.
The Buccaneers hold a 52-6 all-time series lead, but the Trojans earn the 4-3 edge in matches played during the Division II era.
