ASHLAND, Ohio – The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (8-7, 4-4 G-MAC) lost on the road at No. 2 Ashland University (15-1, 8-0 G-MAC), 82-61, on Thursday evening at the Sherrill Hudson Court at Kates Gymnasium.
Ashland won its seventh straight game and has won 52 of its last 53 outings. The Eagles have won 37 straight Great Midwest contests – regular and post season included.
BREAKING IT DOWN
The Trojans built a 9-5 lead behind five
Keeley Carter points in the first three minutes. The used a 8-2 run to take a 13-11 lead at the 4:09 mark of the first quarter. Trevecca tied the game at 13-13, but the hosts rolled off a 12-5 run to the end of the quarter for a 25-18 lead.
Ashland built a lead as high as nine (38-29 / 1:35 2nd Quarter), but Trevecca closed the half on an 8-2 run which extended into the third quarter. With 7:52 left in the third, the Trojans trailed by three (40-37).
It was then the Eagles put the hammer down, going on a 16-2 run over 4:01 of game time to build a 17-point lead (56-39) with 3:34 left in the third. The Eagles were 6-8 from the field and 4-6 from deep.
The Trojans could not measurably cut into the Eagles lead the rest of the way.
KEY PLAYERS
Keeley Carter led Trevecca with 25 points and added seven rebounds, going 9-14 from the field and 6-6 from the charity stripe.
Kor Fornesa Liu led the team with 10 rebounds.
Lili Wilken scored 14 going 2-3 from deep with five rebounds.
TEAM TIME
Bench scoring went to the Eagles 30-6 and had a 40-34 advantage on the boards. Ashland dished out 25 assists to Trevecca's seven.
Ashland hit 15 of 35 from three-point land while the Trojans hit 4 of 16. Trevecca did hit 11 of 12 from the line and won the turnover category 14-12.
