NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (7-6, 3-3 G-MAC) picked up a crucial Great Midwest win over Hillsdale College (6-8, 2-4 G-MAC), 71-49, on Thursday evening in Trojan Fieldhouse.
The Trojans picked up their fifth win in 12 games versus the Chargers.
BREAKING IT DOWN
From the jump, Trevecca used a hot start to build an early 9-0 lead and did not look back. A pair of jumpers and 3-pointers helped establish Trevecca's wire-to-wire win. The visitors needed nearly four and a half minutes to find the bottom of the net in the opening quarter. Eight first quarter points by
Faith Wilken set the tone early for the Trojans who led 20-6 at the end of the first.
The second quarter saw the Trojans nearly double their lead much in part to the long ball. In total, seven 3-pointers were made by Trevecca who stretched its lead to 26. The final three minutes saw Trevecca close the half on an extended 13-3 run to claim a 43-17 advantage at halftime.
The opening minutes of the second half belonged to the Chargers who managed to outscore the Trojans by eight in the frame. Hillsdale produced a 10-1 run in the first three minutes of the third quarter to trim the deficit to 17 at 44-27. That's the closet the Chargers could get the rest of the way though as Trevecca was able to find an offensive rhythm to close out the period. Only three Trojans scored in the third who held a 54-36 lead heading into the fourth.
After a rough patch to start the final quarter, Trevecca found its way to its third league win by slowing the pace down and taking its time on the offensive end.
Keeley Carter poured in six of her game-high 22 points to help the Trojans seal the game down the stretch.

The Trojans 10-13 (76.7%) effort at the foul line helped strengthen the lead late. The Chargers grabbed two more rebounds than Trevecca, 42-40, but did not shoot the ball well at all managing just over 25% from the field as a squad.
