NASHVILLE - The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (6-9, 3-3 Great Midwest) swept visiting Malone University (3-10, 1-3 Great Midwest), 26-24, 25-12, 27-25) on Saturday at Trojan Fieldhouse. Trevecca leads the all-time series with the Pioneers 6-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trevecca led the first set 17-11, but Malone rallied with a 13-6 run to take a 24-23 lead and were serving for the set win. Trevecca got the side out and scored three straight for the win.
Malone continued their momentum in the second set with a 4-2 lead. Trevecca used a 9-1 run to capture the advantage and ran away with the set, 25-12.
Katie Crutchfield fueled the 9-1 run with three consecutive service aces to push her season total to 19.
Malone, needing a win in set three to extend the match, led much of the set. In fact, they were serving for the set win up 24-20. Trevecca earned the side out, then tied the match at 24-24, pushing the set to extra points. Malone served for the set again at 25-24, but Trevecca got the side out again and finished the set and the match with a 27-25 win.
TEAM REPORT
Trevecca hit .211 for the match and had eight service aces, including four for
Katie Crutchfield. TNU collected 11 blocks.
TROJAN PLAYER HIGHLIGHTS
No Trojan hit double figures in kills but were led by
Emma Titus with nine and
Cara Maguire with eight.
Maddie Wilds had four kills and 10 digs.
UP NEXT
Trevecca has their first two match week of the year and have a few days off before hitting the road to play the University of Findlay and Tiffin University next weekend.
