NASHVILLE - The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (5-9, 2-3 Great Midwest) lost to the undefeated Walsh University Cavaliers (11-0, 3-0 Great Midwest) on Friday at Trojan Fieldhouse.
The Cavs won 21-25, 21-25, 11-25. They have won 33 of their 35 sets played this year, going four sets just twice this season. Walsh is 7-4 all-time against the Trojans and broke a three match win streak for the Trojans in the series.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cavs led from start to finish in the first set and led by as many as six.
Trevecca scored the first point of the second set, but the Cavs quickly responded. Trevecca tied the match at 3-3, but Walsh regained the lead and held a margin until the Trojans tied it again at 16-16. With the set timed 17-17, Walsh started to pull away again and this time the Trojans could not catch the Cavs.
Trevecca opened the third with an early lead, but with TNU up 5-3, the Cavs turned up their play and pulled away for their most decisive set win, securing the match in three.
TEAM REPORT
Trevecca hit .273 in the first, but Walsh hit .323 for the win. Trevecca contributed to the Cavs success with 11 service errors and only one service ace. Walsh had just 11 attack errors in the match while the Trojans finished with 23.
TROJAN PLAYER HIGHLIGHTS
Emma Titus led the Trojans with 13 kills. Emilee McDonald had a double-double with 22 assists and 14 digs, both team highs.
UP NEXT
On Saturday, Malone University (4-8, 2-1 Great Midwest) visits at 1:00 PM.
Trevecca owns a 5-2 edge versus Malone and have won four in a row in the series. Malone is fifth in the Great Midwest North Division Preseason Coaches' Poll.
