BOLIVAR, Mo. - The Trevecca Nazarene University men's basketball team (1-1) lost in the Midwest Region Crossover against Drury University (2-0), 92-87.
BREAKING IT DOWN
Drury opened the game with a three-point basket by Riley Naeger. Jamal Cannady scored the Trojans first eight points to keep them in touch with the Panthers who led 17-8 with 16:19 to go in the half. Trevecca began to give Cannady some offensive support and rallied back over the course of final 16 minutes of the half. Trevecca took a 20-19 lead at 13:31 on a
Robert Banks three, closing a 12-2 run. Drury regained the lead and led most of the rest of the first half, but
Lawrence Brazil III hit a three pointer to tie the game 49-49 (0:14) left in the half. Drury hit a pair of free throws to end the first half up 51-49. Pete Lambesis Jr. (11), Jamal Cannady (12), and Jake Muder (8) led the Trojans in the first half.
Trevecca started the second half with a three-pointer from
Jake Mulder, taking a 52-41 lead. Trevecca continued to push and took seven-point lead (62-55) with 15:31 left in the half. Trevecca led 64-59 with 14:27 left when Drury fought back and used a 10-3 run to take a 69-67 lead with 11:32 left. Trevecca regained the lead (80-78) with 5:56 left on a
Josh Goings three, but quickly lost the lead and despite tying the game at 84-84, were never able to pull ahead again. Drury built a six-point lead 91-85 with (:30) left in the game and won by five, 92-87.
KEY PLAYERS
Jamal Cannady scored 19 points to lead his team. Pete Lambesis Jr recorded a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Lambesis added five steals, four assists, and was 2-3 from the three-point line.
Jake Mulder scored 14 points and was 4-6 from the three-point line.
Josh Goings scored 11 points and had three assists.
TEAM TIME
Drury outscored Trevecca 51-49 in the first half and 38-41 in the second half. The Trojans shot 59.3% (32-54) from the field, 50% (10-20) from deep, and 68.4% (13-19) from the foul line. Drury outrebounded the Trojans 31-25, and Drury had 10 turnovers to TNU's 11. Trevecca turned Drury turnovers into 20 points.
