Trevecca Volleyball | Trojans Calm Storm; Host Big G-MAC Matches Next

PAINESVILLE, Ohio - The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (12-13, 8-5 Great Midwest) won their second road Great Midwest game match in as many days with a 3-0 sweep of Lake Erie College (3-20, 2-10) at the Jerome T. Osborne Center.

The Trojans strengthened their hold on second place in the Great Midwest South Division.

The Trojans host two important matches next week when Northwood and Hillsdale visit the Trojan Fieldhouse.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Though the Trojans swept, the match had 17 ties and nine lead changes, but in every set, the Trojans gained control late for the road sweep.

The Storm led set one 7-6, but Trevecca turned the corner and built the first lead of more than two points by either team with a 9-2 run. Trevecca continued to build on the 15-9 lead and won 25-15.

Emilee McDonald opened the second with a service ace, the fourth for the Trojans to that point, but the Storm roared back with their biggest led of the match. LEC outscored the Trojans 5-1 to build a 5-2 advantage. LEC lead 11-10 when TNU turned the set in their favor with a 12-1 run that put the Trojans up for good at 22-12. The run was fueled but the serve of Elizabeth Wells who had three service aces in an eight serve turn that pushed the Trojans from a 15-12 lead to a 22-12 advantage.

A hot Storm start put the hosts up 4-2 in the third set. Trevecca took the lead at 5-4 and never relinquished the lead again.

TEAM REPORT
Trevecca hit .264 for the match and added 10 service aces to their totals. The team hit .370 in the third and final set. LEC hit .092 for the match.

TROJAN PLAYER HIGHLIGHTS
Cara Maguire led the Trojan attack with 12 kills and a .429 attack percentage. Elizabeth Wells and Skias Hainline had three service aces each. Emilee McDonald hit all the stat categories, again, with two kills, 23 assists, two service aces, nine digs, and two blocks.
