HAMMOND, Ind. - The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (9-13, 6-5 Great Midwest) lost a pair of matches at the 2023 Midwest Region Crossover. Northern Michigan (6-12) topped the Trojans 12-25, 26-24, 20-25, 21-25 and Illinois Springfield (7-10) took their match 17-25, 25-23, 23-25, 16-25.
The event is being held at the Hammond Sportsplex.
HOW IT HAPPENED
vs Northern Michigan – The Wildcats jumped out to a 8-1 lead in the first set and never let the Trojans threaten their lead on the way to a dominate first set win.
In the second set Northern Michigan led 5-2 and appeared on the way to going up 2-0. Trevecca responded with a 15-4 run for a 17-9 lead. Northern Michigan rallied all the way back to tie the match at 24-24, but Trevecca's
Emma Titus got the side out and Elizabeth Well provided a service ace for the extra points win.
A very tight battle ensued in set three. Trevecca held a 15-13 lead, but the Wildcats flipped the lead with a 4-0 run and did not relinquish the lead before taking a 2-1 edge in the match with a 25-20 win.
Northern Michigan held a 6-5 lead early in the fourth but used a 7-1 run to take a commanding 13-6 lead and kept at least a two-point advantage the rest of the way.
vs Illinois-Springfield - Trevecca led 8-4 in the first set, but the Prairie Stars began to close the gap and pulled ahead 22-11 with a 14-1 run.
The second set was up for grabs early with both teams holding a modest lead. UIS looked to have turned the set in their favor with a 19-16 lead. TNU responded with a 6-1 run to take a 22-20 edge. UIS tied it up at 22-22, but TNU regained control with a 25-23 win.
The third set was equally competitive after the Prairie Stars pulled ahead 10-3, TNU closed the gap to just two (14-12) and eventually tied the match at 19-19. It remained close to the end, but UIS found a way to cement the win 25-23.
The Prairie Stars led from start to finish in the fourth for the match win.
TEAM REPORT
vs Northern Michigan –
Emma Titus had a dominating performance with 27 kills and a .345 attack percentage. She added seven digs and two blocks.
Maddie Wilds also collected double digit kills with 11 and added 10 digs for the double-double.
vs Illinois-Springfield –
Emma Titus had another dominating performance with 20 kills and a .186 attack percentage. She added a service ace, eight digs, and a block and four block assists.
Katie Crutchfield had 21 digs.
Skias Hainline had a double-double with 10 assists and 11 digs.
TROJAN PLAYER HIGHLIGHTS
vs Northern Michigan – It was the first-ever meeting between the two schools in volleyball. Trevecca hit .242 for the match with a .452 attack percentage in the second set with 18 kills.
Emma Titus had nine of those kills and it .615 for the set.
vs Illinois-Springfield – TNU leads the all-time series 3-2. Trevecca hit .139 for the match with their best set being the third when they hit .217.
UP NEXT
Next, Trevecca plays Upper Iowa (8-10) at 11:30 AM. It will be the first meeting between the Peacocks and Trojans in volleyball.
