THE SERIES
It was lucky number 13 tonight for the Trojans who picked up their 13th victory over the Panthers. Trevecca leads the all-time series, 13-4-1.
THE MATCH
To open Great Midwest Athletic Conference play it was Kentucky Wesleyan who wasted little time testing Trevecca goalkeeper Adan Gonzalez. The Panthers registered their first of seven shots just three minutes into the match. Their resiliency paid off as it was Calum Newson who found the back of the net in the 23rd minute to open the scoring. The goal was Newson's first look at the net in the match and the freshman's first collegiate strike. However, the Trojans would not be denied their chances. In the 44th minute, the Trojans found the equalizer on just their second opportunity of the half. After winning a free-kick from nearly 40 yards out, Tadg McEvoy headed in a cross from Shane Cronin to level the match at a goal apiece. The second half quickly favored the Trojans who beat the Panthers' keeper on just their second attempt of the half. Jacob Sieber collected his first collegiate goal off a pass from Pablo Martin in the 50th minute. The Trojans kept applying pressure in the second half, not allowing the Panthers to maintain much possession or gain pace with the ball. However, in the 85th minute, the Panthers managed to tie the match when Xavier Angel beat Gonzalez to force extra time. In extra time, Pablo Martin tested the Panthers goalkeeper Matt Meyer with a shot in the 97th to no avail. However, it was Ben Singer's golden goal in the 102nd minute to push the Trojans ahead and collect all three points. Singer's tally was assisted by Pablo Martin.
