Trevecca Men's Soccer | Early Red Card Dooms Trojans in 4-0 Loss to Ohio Dominican

Box Score

NASHVILLE– The Trevecca Nazarene University men's soccer team (3-5, 2-4 Great Midwest) fell to the Ohio Dominican Panthers (1-3-2, 1-2-2 Great Midwest) 4-0 on Saturday, after going down to 10 men with a red card, and surrendering a penalty kick goal in the first 15 minutes.

The loss gave Ohio Dominican its first win of the season, and comes on the back of Trevecca's recent run of back-to-back wins against ranked opponents with victories over No. 25 Lake Erie and No. 19 Cedarville.

THE SERIES

It was the 13th matchup ever played between the Trojans and Panthers, and Trevecca dropped to 2-5-6 in the all-time series.

THE MATCH

The game was evenly balanced in the early onset, with the Trojans forcing some action in the final third. The match took a turn in the 14th minute, however, when a penalty kick was awarded to the Panthers and resulted in a red card being given to Trevecca center back Tadg McEvoy. Khalif Hassan converted the spot kick, and the Trojans were already on their heels with a 1-0 deficit and a one man disadvantage.

In the 24th minute, another penalty kick was given to the Panthers, this time resulting in a yellow card for defender Brady Briley. River Allbaugh drove in the penalty to double the Ohio Dominican lead. A few minutes later – in the 28th minute – Carter Patchett found a seam through Trevecca's defense and slid an effort past goalkeeper Isaac Layman to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead, assisted by Nuno Lopez.

It was a 3-0 lead for Ohio Dominican at halftime, and the dagger came in the 62nd minute with a goal by Jaxson Szabo to make it 4-0. The man advantage for the Panthers was evident in the space they were afforded in Trevecca's half throughout the match, and the Trojans' tired legs were unable to work their way back into it.

DETAILS

Hassan, Allbaugh, Patchett, and Szabo were the goalscorers for the Panthers. It was only the second ever start for Treveca freshman goalie Isaac Layman, who let in the first goals of his college career after a shutout against Cedarville on Thursday.

Outside of the red card given to Tadg McEvoy and the yellow card to Brady Briley that resulted in penalties, Elijah Zeisloft and Heeseung Yoo also received yellow cards for the Trojans.

WHAT'S NEXT

Trevecca will look to bounce back on Thursday, April 8 at Malone before playing the final regular season road game of the season on April 10 at Walsh.

The regular season will come to a close at Trevecca Soccer Complex against No. 9 Ohio Valley on Thursday, April 15. Great Midwest Tournament play begins on April 24.
