Trevecca Volleyball | Trojans Set for Great Midwest Semifinal Friday at 4 PM

NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University (19-10) volleyball Trojans advanced to the 2021 Great Midwest Athletic Conference semifinals with their 3-1 quarterfinal win at Walsh on Tuesday. 

The Purple and White face the top-seed and No. 18 Hillsdale College Chargers Friday, November 19 at 4:00 PM in the Great Midwest Semifinals. It is the second time for the program to reach the semifinals. The last time the Trojans did so was in 2015, when they won the Great Midwest tournament and advanced to the NCAA Midwest Regional.

QUARTERFINAL

Trevecca defeated Walsh for just the third time in nine total meetings. They beat the Cavaliers in the regular season, and the quarterfinal win gives the Trojans back-to-back wins over Walsh for the first time. 

It was the third consecutive season for the teams to meet in the quarterfinals. All three were played in North Canton, Ohio, at Alumni Arena. Walsh won the first two quarterfinal meetings.

SERIES HISTORY

Hillsdale owns the series 7-0, including the lone regular-season meeting this year. The Chargers have been so dominating that they won the first 20 sets in the series. Trevecca claimed its first set win in the third set of this year's meeting on September 25. 

REGULAR SEASON MEETING

Trevecca held its own in the regular-season meeting this year at Trojan Fieldhouse. Hillsdale took set one and four 25-17, and Trevecca took set three 27-25. The second set was all Chargers 25-10. Trevecca hit just .058 for the match but hit .172 in the first and .179 in the third. Buffler led the Trojans with nine kills. 

SEASON NOTES

Trevecca opened the season, winning its first seven matches. The 7-0 start is the best in the NCAA era and the best since the 2003-2004 team started 8-0.

Trevecca produced another six-match win streak at the close of the season to push them into the tournament as the No. 5 seed.

The 19 wins are the most for head coach Emily Moore and any coach since the 2015 team won 20 matches. 

It will be the first winning season for Moore since taking over the program. 

The nine regular-season conference wins are the most for the Trojans in the NCAA Div. II era and equal the most since the 2009 team won 11 in the TranSouth (NAIA era).

Coach Emily Moore is now 40-35 overall and 21-18 in Great Midwest play.

AUSTYN BALDWIN

This season | Baldwin leads the team in blocks and kills per set and is second in kills.

NCAA Era Career Rankings | Baldwin will end her career with the highest attack percentage in the NCAA Division II era at Trevecca. She is second in blocks and fourth in career kills and points. 

HANNAH BORNEMANN

This season | Bornemann is third on the team in assists and service aces

2021-2022 | 22 SA, 68 A 

Career | 744 A, 78 SA, 288 D

NCAA Era Career Rankings | Bornemann is sixth in assists and seventh in service aces. 

ELLIE BUFFLER

Buffler hit her season-high with 19 kills in the quarterfinals versus Walsh and notched double-double number 13 on the season. 

Her career-high in kills is 23 set as a freshman. She has three matches with 20 or more kills. She has four matches this season with 19 kills. 

This season | Buffler leads the team in kills, kills per set, service aces. She is third in digs. She is fourth in blocks. 

2021-2022 | 405 K, 3.32 KPS, .199 ATTACK %, 48 SA, 281 D, 42 B

Career | 944 K, 3.48 KPS, .192%, 110 SA, 664 D, 94 B, 1110.05 Points

NCAA Era Career Rankings | Buffler moved into third in career kills this season and is third in points. She is fourth in service aces and ninth in digs. 

CLAIRE HINDMAN

This season | Hindman leads the team in digs and is second in assists and service aces. In addition, she surpassed 1400 career digs over the final regular-season weekend.

Career | 284 A, 97 SA, 1443 D

NCAA Era Career Rankings | Hindman is now second in digs for the NCAA era at Trevecca. In addition, she is fifth in service aces and 10th in assists. 

MADISON MARTIN

This season | Martin is fifth on the team in kills and digs.

2021-2022 | 137 K, 5 SA, 142 D, 21 B

Career | 669 K, 57 SA, 784 D, 69 B, 764 Points

NCAA Era Career Rankings | Martin moved into sixth in career kills this season and is seventh in digs and points.

CHLOEE MCDANIEL

This season | McDaniel earned a weekly Great Midwest award following a rare triple-double earlier this season. She produced 15 double-doubles this season. McDaniel leads the team with 948 assists. She is second in digs and fifth in blocks.

Career | 260 K, .245 ATTACK %, 2290 A, 49 SA, 665 D, 69 B

NCAA Era Career Rankings | McDaniel is second in assists in the NCAA era and is the second Trojan with more than two thousand assists in the Div. II era. Loren Bennett is the leader with 2678 career assists and is ninth in digs. 

SAMI RALEY

This season | Raley is second on the team in attack percentage and blocks. In addition, she is third on the team in kills with her career-high 183.

2021-2022 | 183 K, .339 Attack %, 63 B

Career | 253 K, .278 ATTACK %, 94 B  

LYDIA YONCE

Had a double-double in the quarterfinal match at Walsh. The senior posted her second-highest kills total with 12 against the Cavs. It was her second double-double of the season. She now has three career double-doubles. 

This season | Yonce is third on the team in blocks. She is fourth on the team in kills and digs. She reached 150 career blocks last weekend. 

2021-2022 | 142 K, 256 D, 49 B

Career | 460 K, 37 SA, 890 D, 154 B, 

NCAA Era Career Rankings | Yonce is fifth in digs and tenth is blocks.
