HAMMOND, Ind. – The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (11-7, 4-5 Great Midwest) knows who they will play at the 13th annual Midwest Region Volleyball Crossover, the nation's largest collegiate volleyball tournament.
The 2021 edition is set for a new venue, the Hammond (Ind.) Sportsplex & Community Center, October 15-16. The field includes 12 Great Midwest Athletic Conference (Great Midwest) schools, 15 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) teams, and 11 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) programs.
2021 Midwest Region Crossover
Trevecca faces two opponents on Friday. First is the University of Southern Indiana (11-6, 5-4 GLVC) at 11 AM, then at 6 PM, the Trojans face Lindenwood University (10-5, 5-2 GLVC).
Saturday sees the Trojans take on the University of Indianapolis (10-8, 6-3 GLVC) at 12:45 PM.
All three teams hail from the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Each conference was seeded based on the Division II Massey Ratings. Trevecca is the sixth seed in the Great Midwest while Southern Indiana is the fourth seed in the GLVC.
Lindenwood is second in the GLVC Central standings. UIndy is second in the East, a game ahead of Southern Indiana.
Lindenwood was selected to finish second in the Central while Southern Indiana was tipped to finish second in the East, just ahead of UIndy.
Trevecca has surprised in the Great Midwest South Division, the Trojans were picked fifth in the South, but are a game out of second at 4-5 just behind Ohio Dominican and Tiffin at 5-4.
Lindenwood has the second-best GLVC attack percentage (.239) while Southern Indiana is third (.210). UIndy is third in assists with 11.96 per set. Lindenwood leads with 1.72 service aces per set.
Lindenwood's Mackenzi Sifuentes leads the conference with a .406 attack percentage and teammate Rebecca Janke is second at .388. Southern Indiana has two in the top six as well. Taylor Litteken (.353) and Sidney Hegg (.347) are hitting at a high level. Hannah Huppenbauer (.304) leads the UIndy attack.
The Trojans are the third-best hitting team in the G-MAC, hitting .212 on the season. The Trojans are atop the conference in the opponent block category and own the third-most service aces.
Sami Raley leads the league with a .374 attack percentage and Austyn Baldwin is sixth (.345). Ellie Buffler is third in service aces (.43 p/s).
The Midwest Region Crossover, created in 2008, is a tournament between the GLVC and GLIAC teams. The G-MAC joined the historic volleyball event in 2015. Aside from the great opportunity for teams to play programs from across the region, the event plays a significant role in determining at-large bids to the NCAA Division II Region Tournament.

THE SERIES
Trevecca and Indianapolis have met just once on the volleyball court. The Hounds won that September 29, 2001 meeting. Lindenwood has taken the only two meetings with the Trojans. The last was October 17, 2009. Southern Indiana is the team with the most history with Trevecca. This will be the sixth meeting with the Screaming Eagles who lead the series 3-2. Trevecca claimed the last meeting, though. That match was on September 24, 2019.
UP NEXT
Trevecca returns to the Trojan Fieldhouse on October 22 when they host Walsh University at 6:00 PM. The team welcomes Malone University the following day at Noon.
