OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (5-2) opened day one of the Kentucky Wesleyan Invitational with a 3-0 (25-4, 25-13, 25-6) win over Bluefield State College (0-3) and completed the sweep with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-16,25-17) win over Oakland City University (0-4) on Friday in Woodward Center.

THE SERIES

Trevecca leads Bluefield State 2-0 all-time taking last season's match in three sets.

Trevecca continues their winning streak over Oakland City, extending the unbeaten run to nine. The Trojans hold a 10-2 advantage in the all-time series.

THE MATCHES  

GAME ONE: Trevecca 3, Bluefield State 0

The Trojans quickly took control of the opening set against Bluefield State … TNU won the first set 25-4 … BSC managed to rally for 13 points in the second set, the most they would manage in the match … Trevecca won the set 25-13 … in the third set the Trojans put the Big Blues away quickly … Trevecca won the final set 25-6.

GAME TWO: Trevecca 3, Oakland City 0

Off Claire Hindman (SO/Westfield, IN)'s serve, the Trojans took the first three points of the match … a four-point run separated the two teams early in the set when the Trojans lead grew from 5-2 to 9-2 … after surrendering a point (9-3) the Trojans put the opening set out of reach with an 8-0 run off Austyn Baldwin (SO/Kingston Springs, TN)'s serve pushing it to 17-3 … TNU took the first set 25-12 … the second set was tied on three occasions … midway through the set Oakland City threatened Trevecca pulling to within 15-12 … from there the Trojans outscored the Mighty Oaks 10-4 winning the set 25-16 … in the third set the Trojans once again took the first three points, this time off Chloee McDaniel (FR/Hendersonville, TN)'s serve … Trevecca led by as many as eight (13-5 & 20-12) during the set … TNU took the final set 25-17.

TOP PLAYER

Madison Martin (SO/Martinsville, IN) led the day with 22 total kills and 12 digs. The outside hitter produced a .584 mark on the day with a hitting percentage of .733 (11 K, 0 E, 14 TA) in the first match and a .435 (11 K, 1 E, 23 TA) in the second match.

THE TEAM

The Trojans hit .407 (29 K, 5 E, 59 TA) in game one and while hitting .320 (45 K, 12 E, 103 TA) in the second game.

WHAT'S NEXT 

The Trojans conclude the KWC Invitational with two matches tomorrow against Fisk University at 11 AM and then challenge the University of Maryville-St. Louis (2-3) at 5 PM.

Trevecca last met and defeated Fisk in 2016. Trevecca only ever played Fisk again during the 2011 season, a match the Trojans won in three sets.

Trevecca dropped last season's meeting with Maryville in three sets which leveled the all-time series at 1-1.
