NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (13-13, 4-3 Great Midwest) picked up a key Great Midwest win over Ohio Valley University (7-11, 1-6 Great Midwest) 3-1 (20-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-18) in Trojan Fieldhouse on Saturday.

THE SERIES

Trevecca extends their advantage to 6-3 in the all-time series. The Trojans are 5-1 in the series over the last six meeting. The Trojans are 4-0 at the Trojan Fieldhouse vs the Scots.

THE MATCH

Trevecca 3, Ohio Valley 1

A tight first set turned when the visiting Scots reversed a 6-4 Trojan lead with a 8-2 run to claim a 12-8 lead … the Scots led by as many as seven (18-11) before the Trojans cut the margin to three (23-20) … the Scots closed out the set win 25-20 … in set two both teams led early, but the Trojans seemed to take control building an 18-12 lead … the Scots rallied to tie the match at 19-19 with a 7-1 run … TNU closed out the set with a 6-2 run and a 25-21 win … Trevecca never trailed in set three and after a 1-1 tie, the Trojans pulled ahead 9-4 and were not seriously threatened the rest of the set … in set four the Trojans seemed to be in control with a 7-3 start, but the Scots rallied again and led 13-12 … Trevecca regained the lead 15-14 and led the rest of the way, eventually building a seven point lead at the close

TOP PLAYER

Several Trojans stood out including Hannah Bornemann who produced 35 assists starting for injured Chloee McDaniel … Bornemann added two service aces and nine digs … Ellie Buffler contributed another double-double with 16 kills and 12 digs while adding four service aces … Austyn Baldwin hit .370 with 12 kills against just two errors in 27 tries …

THE TEAM

As a team the Trojans combined to hit .268 with Holmberg (8), Yonce (8), and Martin (6) all contributing significantly to the 51 kills … five different Trojans hit at least one of the Trojans 11 service aces while Claire Hindman joined Buffler to lead the team with 12 digs … the Trojans best set was the fourth when they hit .333 (15 Kills, 3 Errors, 36 Total Attacks)

WHAT'S NEXT 

Trevecca travels to Huntsville for a Tuesday night match at the University of Alabama Huntsville (17-7, 8-1 Gulf South). The match tips as 6 PM in Spragins Hall when the Trojans will look for their first win in the series since 2015. The Chargers lead the series 7-1. The Chargers defeated Trevecca 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-20) on September 7th in the Charger Invitational.

Trevecca hosts Hillsdale College (17-3, 6-0 Great Midwest) on Friday (11.01) at 6 PM in Trojan Fieldhouse and the University of Findlay (6-16, 3-3 Great Midwest) at 11:00 AM on Saturday (11.02) for Homecoming. The Trojans are 0-4 all-time against the Great Midwest leading Hillsdale Chargers and the Findlay Oilers.
