Trevecca Men's Soccer | Second Half Effort Boosts #6 Lake Erie Past Trojans

NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University men's soccer team (2-7-1, 1-5-1 Great Midwest) fell, 4-0, to the #6 ranked Lake Erie Storm (11-0-0, 7-0-0 Great Midwest) on Friday night at the Trojan Soccer Complex.

THE SERIES

The Storm claim their second victory in the series. The team's met exactly a year ago on October 11 in Painesville, Ohio when the Storm claimed a 2-0 home result. LEC lead 2-1 all-time.

 

THE MATCH

As the game began, the wet conditions due to moderate rain played an impact on the style of play. The Trojans kept the nationally ranked #6 Lake Erie scoreless for the first 45 minutes, though the Storm managed nine shots. Lake Erie broke through just six minutes into the second half. An own goal gave the Storm a 1-0 advantage. Tom Akinola gave the Storm a 2-0 lead when he beat Trojan keeper, Will Thompson (FR/Colorado Springs, CO) at 59:47. Akinola's goal was assisted by Ayden Von Essen. Ameer Saade put the scoring margin to 3-0 when connected off a pass from Jacob McGrinder at 78:44. Sander Van Der Slujis capped the scoring at 81:45 off an assist from Saade. The 4-0 victory for Lake Erie keeps them atop the G-MAC table and allows the Storm a five-point lead over Tiffin.

 

WHAT THE RESULT MEANS

The Trojans failed to score for just the second time this season.

The win for Lake Erie keeps the Storm' winning streak alive. Lake Erie has now won 11 straight matches.

 

WHAT'S NEXT 

The Trojans continue their stretch at home with their two final regular-season matches against Malone and Walsh in Nashville.

 

The Pioneers of Malone (1-5-2, 0-5-1 Great Midwest) visit on Thursday, October the 17th at 7:00 PM and Saturday (10.19) it is Walsh University (7-2-1, 3-2-1 Great Midwest) taking on the Trojans at 4:30 PM.

  

The Trojans are 4-0 versus Malone all-time. The Trojans are 1-0 versus the Pioneers in matches played On the Hill. The Walsh Cavaliers arrive in Nashville to give one of the two teams an edge in the series which currently even at 1-1.
