NASHVILLE - The Trevecca Nazarene University men's soccer team (0-0-1, 0-0-0 G-MAC) played to a 2-2 with Union University (0-0-1, 0-0-0 GSC) in the season opener played at Trojan Soccer Complex on Thursday. The teams eventually played 110 minutes of soccer with the two overtimes.

The start of the match was delayed 70 minutes due to lightning in the area. Another delay came with 20 minutes left in the match when the lighting system malfunctioned for another nearly 20-minute delay.

The match launched the year-long celebration of 50 Years of Intercollegiate Athletics at Trevecca. The year also marks the 10th season for Danny Leavy as the men's coach and the 20th season of men's soccer at Trevecca.

SERIES HISTORY

It is the first tie in the series and the first time the Bulldogs have been denied a win in the last five meetings. Trevecca last defeated the Bulldogs in 2008. Treveca also claimed a win in the second meeting in 2002. This is the first meeting between the two former conference foes since 2013. Union leads the series 11-2-1.

GAME DETAILS

Both teams scored a goal in the first and second half. Trevecca scored first on a Nicolas Reinhard (SR/Heiligkreuzsteinach, Germany) goal at 5:56. Juan Cernas (FR/Smyrna, TN) assisted on the goal. Union answered just 59 seconds later and the teams went to the break tied 1-1.

Union gained their first and only lead with a goal at 49:45. Ethan Keogh (SR/Athlone, Ireland) answered to level the match at 2-2 with a goal at 55:16. Reinhard assisted on the goal.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Tyler Delgado (JR/Spring Hill, TN) held the Bulldogs at bay, saving six of the eight shots he faced over 110 minutes of action.

The Trojans continue their home stretch when they host Bellarmine University on Saturday at 4 p.m.
