Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (6-6, 0-0 G-MAC) defeated Maryville University - St. Louis (2-9) in three sets 25-14, 25-12, 25-21. This was the first match between the two teams in their existence.

The first set was tied at 5-5 when the Trojans rolled off a 5-2 run for a 10-7 edge. The Trojans led 16-12 midway through the set, but a 9-2 run secured a convincing 25-14 first-set win.

The second set started the same way the first set ended, with set-deciding Trojan run. The Trojans led 10-1 and never put the breaks on.

The third and final set started with a 8-3 Saints surge, before coach Jayme Crowley called a time out. Alex Reuter (SO/Brentwood, TN) had two kills out of the timeout to give some momentum back to the Trojans. The Trojans tied it at 14-14 and the set remained close with the final tie coming at 21-21. From there the Trojans used a 4-0 run to end the match in three sets.

In the third set there were 10 ties and three lead changes. The first set had five ties and three lead changes, but the Trojans led from start to finish in the second.ÂÂ

Katelyn Atkinson (SR/Hermitage, TN) lead in kills with 14 with Clare Taylor (SO/Milan, TN) and Alex Reuter adding 10 each. Hannah Matthews lead in assists with 33.

Trevecca returns to action on the Sept. 23rd at 5 PM when they visit Pepper Pike, OH to take on the Ursuline College Arrows (8-5, 0-0) in what will be the first Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) match for both teams. Trevecca is 5-3 against the Arrows, with victories in the last two meetings. Trevecca visits Malone University (3-9, 0-0 G-MAC) on Saturday in what will be the first meeting for the Trojans against the Pioneers. Malone is located in Canton, OH.
