Trevecca Volleyball | Trojan Stumble at Ohio Valley; Host Senior Night Wednesday vs KWC

VIENNA, W.Va. - The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (15-11, 7-2 G-MAC) lost for the second match in a row in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) road game at Ohio Valley University (7-21, 1-6). The Fighting Scots won in five-sets 23-25, 25-15, 25-19, 23-25, 15-13. 

 

Trevecca returns home for Senior Night with Katelyn Atkinson (SR/Hermitage, TN) on Wednesday when Kentucky Wesleyan College visits at 6 PM in the Trojan Fieldhouse.

The Trojans looked good winning a hard-fought first set 25-23. Trevecca appeared to be gaining control of a back-and-forth set with a 10-6 lead with a 9-3 run. The Scots tied the match at 10-10 and the teams remained close the rest of the way. OVU looked to be in line for the win leading 23-22. Trevecca got the side out on a Katelyn Atkinson kill then Atkinson served out with Janessa Hodge (SO/Nashville, MI) and Claire Reinthaler (JR/Heyworth, IL) delivering the kill on the final two points.

 

The second set saw a 1-1 tie, but after that it the Scots dominated with a 25-15 win. The Scots hit .355 (14 kills, 3 errors, 31 attacks) and had six different players provide a kill. The Scots never trailed in the set.

 

The Scots won the third set as well and jumped out early with a 4-2 lead, but Trevecca reeled OVU in to take the lead 6-5 and the teams exchanged the lead until OVU took a 17-11 lead and looked to be pulling away with a 6-1 run. Trevecca scored five straight to make it 17-16 OVU with Stephanie Bouchard (JR/Chattanooga, TN) serving the Trojans through four of those points. Bouchard had an ace and Katelyn Atkinson provided two kills. Trevecca could not hold the Scots back anymore and fell 25-19.

 

The Trojans did not back down, they battled back to win the fourth set despite falling behind 3-1. Trevecca fell behind 6-4 and struggled to stay close with OVU 16-13 midway through the match. Trevecca pulled ahead, but trailed 19-17 when they made their final move. Trevecca outscored the Scots 8-4 to the finish, extending the match to a fifth set.

 

Trevecca looked to be on a roll and led 7-1 in the fifth set, but OVU jumped back into the set with a 7-2 run and trailed 9-8. The match was tied 10-10, but Trevecca pulled ahead again and led 13-11 with the serve. Alyx Henry got the sideout with a kill and then two Trojan attack errors and another Henry kill gave the Scots the set and match win.


 Trevecca hit .112% (49 kills, 29 errors, 178 attacks) and Alex Reuter (SO/Brentwood, TN) led the attack with six kills and no errors in 16 attacks for a .375% attack percentage.
