Trevecca Volleyball | Trojans Beat Mighty Oaks; Head to Cedarville Friday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (15-9, 7-0 G-MAC) defeated Oakland City University (8-10) 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-16) at the Trojan Fieldhouse on Tuesday.

Trevecca is 8-2 versus the Mighty Oaks all-time.

 

The first set was tight throughout with the Mighty Oaks taking a 9-8 lead early. The Trojans pulled ahead again with four straight and a 12-9 lead. With Trevecca leading 17-14, OCU tied the match 18-18 and then took a 21-20 lead. Trevecca outscored OCU 5-0 for a 25-21 victory.

 

The second set was even tighter than the first with 11 ties and nine lead changes. The Oaks started the second set strong and stayed consistent ahead throughout the match. The Oaks had a 20-16 advantage, but the Trojans rallied with a 9-3 run for a 25-23 win.

 

The third set leaned heavy to the Trojans after they turned a 5-3 Mighty Oaks advantage into a 9-6 Trojan lead following a 6-1 run. Trevecca finished the set out pointing OCU 22-11 to close out the match and a sweep of the Mighty Oaks. 

 

For the match Trevecca hit .210% (39 kills, 17 errors, 105 attacks) with the first and third sets reaching beyond .300%. In the first Trevecca hit .355 (12-1-31) and in the third hit .333% (14-5-27).

 

Katelyn Atkinson (SR/Hermitage, TN) hit .467% (17-3-30) for the match with an assist and seven digs. Hanna Matthews (FR/Ooltewah, TN) handed out 31 assists with four digs. Janessa Hodge (SO/Nashville, MI) had two blocks. Ashleigh Lozier (JR/Murfreesboro, TN) added 13 digs to lead the Trojans. Gracie Larkin (FR/Burns, TN) added two kills and a block.

 

Trevecca goes to Cedarville University (17-7, 4-1 G-MAC) on Friday at 6 PM. Trevecca is 4-8 all-time against the Yellow Jackets and have won their last two games in the series including a three-set sweep at the Trojan Fieldhouse earlier this year.
