Trevecca Men's Soccer | Trojans Outlast Kentucky Wesleyan 6-5 in Regular Season Finale

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca Nazarene University men's soccer team (7-9-1, 5-6-1 G-MAC) defeated the Kentucky Wesleyan College Panthers (3-13, 2-10 G-MAC) 6-5 (OT) in a Great-Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) match.

 

The Trojans scored the first three goals of the match for a 3-0 lead. William Kaufmann (SO/Nashville, TN) scored first in the 10th minute (9:39) on a pass from Ryan Hogan (SR/Ballincollig, Ireland). In the 20th minute (19:18) Nicholas Reinhard connected on a pass from Jeremiah Wright (SR/Columbia, TN). In the 30th minute (29:24) Kevin Pierce (FR/Franklin, TN) scored first of is three goals on a Frank Down (JR/Ballincollg, Ireland) pass.

 

The match turned in a hug way as Kentucky Wesleyan scored four unanswered goals for a 4-3 lead midway through the second half. The fourth goal was from Arthur Rogers on a pass from Ben Protheroe in the 64th minute (63:17).

 

Trevecca got the equalizer on a corner from Jordan Gilmore (SR/Portadown, Northern Ireland) that Ryan Hogan capitalized on in the 73rd minute (72:16).

 

The Trojans regained the lead when Kevin Pierce took a pass from Frank Down and Sean Anderson (SO/Fairview, TN) and tapped it in for a 5-4 advantage.

 

Kentucky Wesleyan tied the match again on a pass from Nikos Agisilaou to Blake Cobb in the 84th minute (83:01).

 

The Trojans put the game away in overtime as Kevin Pierce got a cross from Jordan Gilmore in the 99th minute (98:27) to give the Trojans the win. The goal was the third of the match and gives Pierce a hat trick.

 

The Trojans are 9-1 overall against the Panthers all-time.

 

The Trojans head to the postseason and play at Alderson Broaddus University (8-7-2, 7-5 G-MAC) on Saturday in the G-MAC Championship Quarterfinal at 6:30PM.

 

The Trojans are 2-4 against the Battlers all time, but won 2-1 on the road at ABU earlier this year.
