Trevecca Volleyball | Moves to 2-1 on Road Trip with Win at Ky. State

Box Score
FRANKFORT, Ky. - The Trevecca volleyball team (6-6) went on the road and defeated Kentucky State University (6-3) in straight sets 25-19, 28-18, 25-15

Trevecca travels to King University (4-7) in Bristol, Tenn. for another non-conference match, their last before starting Great Midwest Athletic Conference play next Friday, on October 2nd, at Ursuline College. Trevecca leads the series with King 1-0 in the NCAA Division 2 era, winning last year on a neutral site. Trevecca will host the Tornadoes on October 6th, that is the next home game for the Trojans.

Trevecca evened series during the D2 era with Kentucky State at 1-1 and avenged a heart-breaking loss to the Thorobreds in last year's meeting. That meeting took place at the Trojan Fieldhouse. Trevecca took a 2-0 lead, but the visitors rallied to win the final three and steal a win.

The Trojan didn't let that happen again and picked up a nice road win while doing so.

Coach Jayme Crowley said, "We came out strong and finished the same way. We were able to get our entire roster some court time tonight. It is nice to win on the road and improve to 2-1 on this road swing. We are looking forward to playing again at King on Thursday. It will be our final tuneup before taking a bit of a break and starting G-MAC play next Friday."

Set one was a close throughout as neither team served more than twice consecutively throughout the set.  In fact KSU only served the ball consecutively once. That was on the third and fourth point of the set. From there Trevecca methodically produced a sideout and steadily gained the edge for the win.

With KSU leading 15-15, TNU began to find separation scoring nine of the next 11 points for a 23-17 advantage. Trevecca finished the set off with a 25-19 victory.

In the second set Trevecca pulled ahead 8-4 after falling behind 2-1. Trevecca extended the lead to 15-10 before the Thorobreds rallied to pull to within one (18-17) with a 7-2 run. The Trojans bounced back with six straight points, with five of those coming on the serve of Katelyn Atkinson (JR/Hermitage, TN). When it was over the Trojans were in control 24-17 and won 25-18.

The early portion of the third set was much like the first. Neither team could sustain the serve, but Trevecca was able to gain a little separation for a 8-6 edge. The Trojans began to pull away, first with a 7-1 run for a 15-7 lead. The final run carried the Trojans to the victory. Leading 17-12, Trevecca scored eight of the final 11 points for a 25-15 win.

The victory in the hour and 20 minute match gives Trevecca a .500 record again and a chance to move above .500 before heading into G-MAC play next week.

The Trojans hit for a .345 attack percentage in the opening set with 15 kills against just five errors. The team did not have any ball handling errors, set errors, reception errors, or block errors.

Katelyn Atkinson and Stephanie Bouchard (SO/Chattanooga, TN) each had 10 kills. Bouchard had a .304 attack percentage while Alex Reuter (FR/Brentwood, TN) had six kills and a .357 attack percentage. Loren Bennett (SR/Ooltewah, TN) added to her league-leading set assist totals with 32. Bouchard led the team with nine digs, just missing a double-double. Atkinson, the back-to-back G-MAC Athlete of the Week, added seven digs and three blocks.
