Trevecca Men's Soccer | Trojans win on Senior Night over Ky. Wesleyan

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca Nazarene University men's soccer team (7-9, 5-7 G-MAC) beat visiting Kentucky Wesleyan College (2-13-1, 1-8-2 G-MAC) 6-1 at the Trojan Soccer Complex on Tuesday.

Trevecca advances to the G-MAC tournament and will be the fifth seed and play at the fourth-seeded Ohio Valley University (8-7-1, 6-5-1 G-MAC) on Saturday, October 31 in Vienna, W.Va. at 11 AM. Trevecca leads the series with Ohio Valley 4-1-1, but the Fighting Scots beat the Trojans in the last meeting 1-0 in Vienna.

The other G-MAC Quarterfinal is sixth-seeded Davis & Elkins College (5-8-2, 3-6-2 G-MAC) at third-seeded Salem International (9-7-1, 7-5 G-MAC). The TNU/OVU winner will play #1 seed Cedarville University (13-3-1, 10-2 G-MAC) at 5 PM on Thursday, November 5 in Cedarville, Ohio. The D&E/SIU winner will play #2 seeded Alderson Broaddus University (10-5-1, 7-4 G-MAC) on Thursday at 7:30 PM. The G-MAC Championship is Saturday, November 7 at Noon at Cedarville in Cedarville, Ohio.

 

Trevecca leads the series with KWC 7-1 all-time. The Trojans have won two in a row in the series. The only win for KWC came in the season finale last year. TNU wins the season series.   

 

Trevecca scored three goals in each half while the Wesleyan goal came after the Trojans scored all six goals.

 

Jake Singer (SO/Donelson, TN) scored first for Trevecca with an assist from Jordan Gillmore in the 4th minute (4:21). It is Singer's third goal of the year. For Gilmore, he picked up his second assist of the season.

 

Ryan Hogan (JR/Ballincollig, Ireland) scored next with an assist from Baylor McKay (JR/Brentwood, TN) in the 12th minute (12:56). It is Hogan's fifth goal and McKay's first assist. Hogan has a team-high 11 points.

 

Jake Singer scored his second of the half in the 37th minute (37:51) unassisted and the Trojans went to the break with a commanding 3-0 advantage. It is Singer's fourth goal of the year. Singer is tied with Jeremiah Wright for second on the team in points with 10.

 

Matthew Dyer (SR/Mt. Juliet, TN) scored back-to-back unassisted goals in the second period. First in the 64th minute (64:37) and then 59 seconds later in the 65th minute (65:36) for a 5-0 Trojan lead. Those are his first two career goals and they come in the seniors final home match. Dyer has two goals and four points on the year.

 

Another senior, Samuel Mummert (SR/Mt. Juliet, TN), scored the next goal, the final goal of the night for the Trojans. Mummert was assisted by Danny Martinez (SO/Nashville, TN) on his goal in the 78th minute (78:13) for a 6-0 TNU advantage. Mummert scored his fourth goal and now has nine points, good for third on the team. Martinez picked up his first assist and has three points on the year.

 

Trevecca's other senior, keeper Daniel Mudd (SR/Shelbyville, TN) stood tall in goal with four saves for the win. Trey Hill allowed all six Trojan goals for the Panthers and had five saves. Mudd is now 4-6 on the year while Hill drops to 1-4.

 

The Trevecca seniors (Dyer, Mummert, Mudd) go to the post season with 29 career wins and 14 G-MAC victories.
