Volleyball | Ouachita Baptist Sweeps Trevecca at UAH Classic

Box Score

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Trevecca University volleyball team (1-2) was swept in straight sets by Ouachita Baptist (2-1) in the third match for the Trojans in the Marriott UAH Classic.

The Trojan's will play their final match of the classic at 5 p.m. taking on host school University of Alabama-Huntsville (1-2).

Trevecca coach Jayme Crowley said her team showed room for improvement in the day's first match, "We got into some adversity and we did not handle it well. We addressed it and we fought back. We did not give up or cave in. I was pleased with our fight in the final set, but it was too late for this match."

Crowley concluded her between match comments by adding she sees the team coming close to playing at a higher level, "We need to believe in ourselves and handle our frustrations better. We are right there and I believe good play is around the corner."

Katelyn Atkinson (SO/Hermitage, Tenn.) led the Trojans in the kill column striking for nine in her 37 attempts. Delaney Hearne (JR/San Marcos, Tex.) had seven while Stephanie Bouchard (FR/Chattanooga, Tenn.) had six of her own.  Junior Loren Bennett (JR/Ooltewah, Tenn.) set 28 of the Trojans 33 assists.

Sophomore libero, Kayleigh Jarrett (SO/Tehachapi, Calif.) led the defensive efforts with 10 digs. Atkinson followed with nine of her own, while Kirsten Taylor (SR/Murfreesboro, Tenn.) had seven.

The first set was separated by no more than three to take the first set to a 10-10 tie. The Tigers would then go on a 15-5 run that would end the first set.

Ouachita would continue their hot streak into the second set jumping out to a 15-4 lead. Trevecca would push their way back into the set with an 11-5 run of their own drawing the set within five. That is as close as the Trojan's would only get as close as four in the set dropping it, 25-18.

The momentum seemed to shift to start the third set. The Trojan's jumped to a 10-4 lead, but the Tigers came storming back tying the set at 14, then again at 15. Trevecca extended the lead back to two before Ouachita went on an 8-0 run. That would lead the Tigers to the 25-21 victory in the set, winning the match.

After the finally of the UAH Classic, the Trojan's will return to Trojan Fieldhouse on Tuesday, September 9 at 6 p.m. to take on former conference foe Lee University.
