Box Score NASHVILLE – Tenn. The Trevecca (4-3) women's volleyball team opened the fifth annual Scott Jones classic with win over Oakland City (1-1) in five sets (25-21, 21-25, 21-25, 25-18, 15-9).

The Trojans will play the two remaining opponents on Saturday, September 13 in back-to-back matches against Mount Olive and Arkansas Tech at 12 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. respectively.

Delaney Hearne (JR/San Marcos, Tex.) led all attackers with 15 kills on the match. Katelyn Atkinson (SO/Hermitage, Tenn.) had 14 kills of her own while Zakia Jackson (JR/Hermitage, Tenn.) had 11. Loren Bennett (JR/Ooltewah, Tenn.) set 46 of the Trojans 49 assists.

Atkinson led the defensive effort with 19 digs. Loren Bennett had 15 and Kayleigh Jarrett (SO/Tehachapi, Calif.) ended the match with 14. Cara Trunnell (SR/Jasper, Ala.) had five blocks in addition Hearne's four.

Trevecca has defeated Oakland City three out of the five meetings since 2012. The Trojans have won the last two meetings. In all, this was the 10th meeting between the two schools and Trevecca now holds a 6-4 advantage in the series. Trevecca, after starting 1-3, have won three-in-a-row overall.

The Trojans started the match jumping out to a 3-0 lead before the Oaks of Oakland City found their way onto the board. Hearne and Atkinson's combined seven kills helped the Trojans to a 25-21 first-set win.

The Trojans pushed their lead to 10-5 early on in the second set before the Oaks would go on a 10-5 run tying the set at 16. The Oaks had four straight kills to go up 22-20. The Trojan's would fall in the set 21-25.

The Oaks would continue into the third set taking an early lead. The Trojan's got within one before the Oaks would 7-1 run to push their lead to seven. The set would end 21-25 in favor of the oaks.

Tied at 16 in the fourth set, Trevecca went on a 9-2 run to tie the match back two sets a piece. The Trojans benefited from strong play by Jackson who had five kills in the set to help push the match to a fifth set.

The momentum would swing from earlier in the match with the Trojans scoring the seven of the set's first eight points. The Oaks would follow that with a 7-3 run of their own to cut the lead to three. That was as close as the set would get as the Trojan's finished the match winning the final set 15-9.
